Surname Pasquale (Cyprus)

Post by El_Greco »

Hello all! Nice finding you here.

Well, I have an issue... I come from Cyprus, and from what I know my family (In Greek, Paschalides in Italian Pasquale) has italian (Venetian) ancestry, most likely from the Venetian Era of Cyprus (1489 - 1571 A.D.)
Thow they mixed with the local population, and became Orthodox Christians therefore the Surname turned to a more "Greek-ish" version, Paschalides.

Can anyone give something from were to begin ?

Thanks a lot!

Hello el_greco,

I read your post before, but I just don't know how to handle Cyprus, so I didn't respond. Probably others felt the same way. The Mormons don't have Cypriot records microfilmed. (They don't have Tunisian records filmed either, and there was/is a colony of Italians there...including some of my distant relatives. Oh, well, what are you going to do?)

I don't think you can jump into Italian genealogy in the 1400s. I think you're going to have to start in Cyprus in work backward until you find a relative you can trace in Italy.

Here are some resources.
