Hi Misbris - Yes I'm aware of this. Actually, what we called her was pronounced "zizzee"... an affectionate form of Zia. Thanks for your response.

Hi Valerie - Carmine's wife's name was Esther (she was hearing impaired). Also, his father's name was Giovanni and his mother's name was Esther. Thanks for your response.

Hi Laura - I don't think that this record is my Grandfather's. First, I never heard his last name referred to as Cambano; second, his spouse would have been my Grandmother, Maria or Mary; and finally, the children's names would have been Jenny, Genarina, and Louise. I am grateful for your time and effort.

Hi Pink67 - Yes! That's the one. Genarina was my Mother. When she went to school, the teachers thought she ought to have an American name, so they told her they would call her Geraldine (imagine changing a wonderfully lyrical name like Genarina to anything else). So her school records reflect that name. Outside of school, she was called Jerry and always spelled it with a "J". I have no idea how Luigi became Loni unless it was just a typo.

I'm sure this is the correct record. Thank you so much.

Hi Pink67 - My Grandparents had 3 boys and 3 girls. Each of the boys perished soon after birth, but the 3 girls survived. See below.

That's exactly correct. All of the boys died of respiratory problems. What I don't see is a record of my Aunt Louisa. She and my Aunt Jennie both passed away a few years ago. Thank you so much. I am very grateful for your assistance.

She was sponsored, I believe, by an organization that did such things for a fee (I believe it was paid to them in the old country) in order to acquire cheap labor - the stories my grandmother told were not pretty. Bottom line - she didn't know the man who "claimed her". She was with many others who were trucked from NYC to Mass. and put up in the same place
Hi, abt this your phrase.... I wish ask you if the Giuseppe DE DATTIS name have some signifiance for you... and, also, if is possible that Maria came before of 1902.... let me know your suggestions...

I don't know that name, and don't believe that I've ever heard Maria refer to it.

Yes, it is possible that she came before 1902. I originally believed that Maria came to the US in 1901 based on Maria's comment to me that she was 13 when she arrived. Since she was born in 1888, that would make her arrival year 1901. There has been some disput about that. My cousin says her Mom told her that Maria came here at age 14 - that would make her probable arrival date at 1902.

Hi Bob,

I think we might distantly be related. My family came from the same area and my last name is Laurenzo. I've built a family tree up as far as I can but am lacking critical information that is only with my family in New York. They have no interest in this sort of thing and it's hard to get a hold of anyone for information but they are all from the same area. do you have an email address and a link to a family tree?

Hi Cassie - We very well might be related. I understand that about a third of town of caianello has the surname Laurenzo or some iteration of it. We found that my grandmother's last name was actually LaurenzA. My Email address is:
bobficoturo@verizon.net
Please feel free to contact me if you wish. We have uncovered a great deal of info about my Grandmother and that area.
