Visaggio/Bruno/De Maso/Pelleteri

Post by seatbeltblue »

I'm looking for any information on Giuseppe Visaggio and his wife Anna Maria de Maso. They would have been born in the 1850's/60's, and had a child named Prospero in 1882. They came to the United States in the mid 1880's.

Alternately, I'm looking for information on Michele Bruno and his wife Maria Pelleteri, both born in Italy to the best of my knowledge. They had seven children: Simon, Giovanni, Theresa, Margarita, Julia, Florence, and Dominico. They came to the United States between 1883 and 1886.

Thanks :)

Hi and welcome to the forum,

I think this thread might get a little confusing if we try to deal with so many names at one time. Let's start with the Visaggio/de Maso family first and then you could start a new thread for the Bruno's.

Can you give us a little more info about Giuseppe? What town in Italy did he come from? Where did he settle? Did the family come together? Were there other children? Do you have any census info or ship's manifests yet?
We will be happy to help if you give us a few more clues.

Giuseppe Visaggio, near as I can tell, came to the US from Stigliano, Matera. The family settled in New York City. I don't know what the ship was, or if the family came together.

I'm not sure what to make of that Visaggio 1900 census form. I'm not sure what "Risano" refers to; is it a middle name? And the existence of a "Julia Pelletieri;" my great-great-grandmother Julia Bruno's mother was a Pelleteri...I guess that's just something of a coincidence, and my g-grandfather Prospero had a sister named Julia who married a Joseph Pelletieri? But she...she'd only be a year old. What the heck?

Hi Brian!
I added the 'Visaggio' to the 1900 transcription. 'Kesser' & 'Risano' is how ancestry.com transcribed the last name.
It appears from the 1900 census that Prospero had an older sister Julia.
In 1910 he has a younger sister 'Julliet' born in 1891 or more likely 1899.
