Labonia Family

Post by GianniM »

Ciao tutti. I'm so happy to have found this website. Thank you in advance!

I'm Italian American and my native Italian family members have unfortunately passed away. My nonna's maiden name was Labonia and from what I've been told, my relatives are well known. Supposedly, my cousins have been part of their local government and such.

From what I've been told, my grandmother was from Reggio di Calabria although there is a town called Labonia in northern Calabria. I also found Palazzo di/dei Labonia in my searches.

I'm very curious to know more about our background if possible. Please let me know if you need any other information.

Also, I'm trying to find a meaningful design for a tattoo and I'd love to use something related to my Italian heritage, more specifically where I'm from in Italy. Any ideas?

GRAZIE MILLE!

Vincenzo was her brother although I'm not sure if he was born here or Italy.

Her name was Francesca (Frances) Labonia.

If you can provide details on the family, members can locate US records enabling them to confirm place of birth, town of exact origin, and perhaps additional details on the family such as siblings and parents......it is always better to locate all info on the composition of the family here in the US and work your way backwards.

Census info can narrow down time of immigration as well as naturalization,
and nation of birth, and year of birth.

Provide the name of your Nonni's husband, children, years of birth and state in which they lived. Any and all details will help further research.

Perhaps the flag or coat of arms specific to the region for a tatoo:

Without further detail, this is purely speculation.....

From the WW2 draft registration:

Vincenzo Anthony Labonia
residence: 6 Lyons St.
New Haven, Conn.
Birthplace: Calopezzati, Italy
Birthdate: December 1891

Is married, name of wife not listed, and he works for the
Dwight Building Co. / Church Center St.

There is also a manifest for Vincenzo, but birthdate is listed as 1886,
arrival 1906.

and there is this record from the Connecticut death index:

Connecticut Death Index, 1949-2001
Name: VINCE LABONIA
Death Date: 25 Sep 1957
Death Place: New Haven, New Haven, Connecticut
Age: 65 Years
Birth Date: xxxYOB
Marital Status: Married
Spouse: CONC
State File #: 15624
RESIDENCE: New Haven, New Haven, Connecticut
Gender: Male
Race: White

Again, pure speculation.....

A Coat of Arms is exactly what I was looking for! Thank you SO SO MUCH!

As far as more family information goes, I'll need to speak to my father and get more specific details. Thanks again for all of your help thus far.

I just found out this website. My mother's family name is Labonia. All I know is her grandparents immigrated do Brazil, from Calabria. I know there is a coat of arms and some family history online. If someone has some more information, I'd appreciate to know more. Thank you. Sonia Edgar
