meaning of the name Sanita

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

meaning of the name Sanita

Post by sigel7 »

On my Grandmothers birth certificate her mothers name is Sanita. I looked up the meaning and all I could find was "health" or referring to a sanitarium. My question is: could this be her real name or were they implying something?? I know she died at a very young age, if that has anything to do with it.

Thanks

Catherine

Catherine it looks like it may be a mispelling of Santina or something similar. Just an opinion. =Peter=

Catherine - Sania (or Sannia) is a very old name in the Molise area. Perhaps Sanita is a diminutive of that name?
