Italian Army WW1

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

I don't know about pictures, but see this thread for information on how to obtain your ancestor's Italian military records: http://italiangenealogy.com/Forums/viewtopic/t=15162/

Thank you for the raises but since we are unpaid volunteers perhaps you might call us either your models or your heroes instead. =Peter=

Hi,

There is still a very famous cavalry regiment based in Pinerolo, Piemonte.
They have a fascinating museum, just off the main piazza. I was there about 3 years ago, hoping to find info regarding my g grandfather - but no luck.

This is the only one I know of, but there are bound to be others in Italy.

I found this picture of an unknown relative of ours - does anyone know when this is from? The picture is in sepia tones, appears to be quite old.

This is Italian Army (Esercito) for sure. An Infantry Regiment.
Too bad the black and with pictures dont give any idea of the colour
of the collar.
Here there are all the infantry regiments and the color of the collars

http://www.cimeetrincee.it/brigate.htm

Also too bad there is not the hat of the uniform, it usually shows the number of the infantry regiment.
I hope it helps
bye Riccardo
