Italian Prisoner of War

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

Italian Prisoner of War

Post by peachesandcream »

am researching Angelo Pignatelli, born in Cassino - served in Italian military for 10 years beginning in 1935 - assume saw action in Ethiopia -taken prisoner, assume in North Africa by the British - looking for full military record and any records pertaining to his imprisonment - sorry but don't know much more than this - have tried searching through "Ministero Della Difesa" (http://www.difesa.it/Pagine/default.aspx) but with no luck - was referred there by National Archives of United Kingdom (http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/reco ... ersons.htm) "Prisoners of War in British Hands".

do not read Italian but have a fluent colleague who is helping me - seem to be stalled at "Ministro" Italian government - any help would be deeply appreciated.

Welcome to IG website! What is his birth date? Do you have his birth record with his parents names?
If he was born in Cassino try the Archivio di Stato di Frosinone
