Catalano surname move from Italy to Bisacquino, Sicily

As a nation state, Italy has emerged only in 1871. Until then the country was politically divided into a large number of independant cities, provinces and islands. The currently available evidences point out to a dominant Etruscan, Greek and Roman cultural influence on today's Italians.

Catalano surname move from Italy to Bisacquino, Sicily

Post by delliott7756 »

I am trying to learn the history about my Catalano family in Bisacquino, Sicily. I got back as far as Ippolito Catalano and Santa Oddo around 1775 but nothing past them. According to history, the name CATALANO originally came from Spain and then migrated to Italy; adopting the surname from Catalonia. (Correct me if I am wrong) If my family is in Sicily, when did they get to Sicily and from where in Italy. My Great Grandparents Ippolito Catalano, his wife Dominica Alesci Catalano and their 3 month old baby Giuseppe immigrated to USA in 1891 to New Orleans, Louisiana. Anyone's help is great appreciated.

Thank you

Debbie
