Help with name please

Post by gennattasio »

Can anyone please help with last name for Domenica, mother of the deceased on both records?

They almost look like two different surnames... one clearly beginning with a 'D' and the other with what might be an 'S' though it does look more like an 'H'.

But I can't make out the name on either - sorry!

They do look like two different names but Michelangelo, Domenica's husband, died before both death records were written. Thanks for trying.

Hi Genattasio,

the last name look like different but similar to common surnames in souther Italy: in the first document ( http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj65 ... a.jpgmaybe) is Daccardi (actually you can find D'accardi too) in the second document it seems Accardi , without "D". It is a common mistake. My Great grand mother's surname was DAVOLA but i found Avola or D'Avola and so one ....

Have a nice day

Vincenzo
I'm searching lost relatives and descendant of my greatgrandfather Vincenzo Genualdi (or Gennaldi or Genuardi) and my greatgrandmother Concetta Davola (their sons: Angela, Carmela, Antonio, Bartolomeo, Ernesto, Simone, Riccardo, Maria) went in Chicago,Ill., and New Orleans, in 1880-1920 from Sicily. Other family related : Jacobucci or Jacopucci (from Central Italy).

Hi Gennattasio,
have you considered that Michelangelo might have married twice and that both wives' first name was Domenica? The two family names look quite different even assuming that officers were sometimes mispelling names.
Also, you said that Michelangelo died before both death records were written. This is wrong. On the first record Michelangelo is alive, on the second one you can see the word "fu" before his name which means "the late".

Ciao Ada

It is an error that it does not say fu before his name on the 1st record. I have Michelangelo's death record from 1827 so he could not have had 2 different wives between 1835 and 1840.

Hi
I think Vincenzo is definitely correct about the variations in the "D". To me, the last letters look like "ceti" -- D' Acceti(?) especially the second one it looks clearer.
