the name on death index for Polizzi appears as (mro) Gandolfo Lipani

Usually it stands for "mastro" (= maestro, master, used for craftsmen), but it's better to see the document.

ok , thank you. I don't have the original index. I have a genealogists transcribed version, am waiting for the film to come in at local family history center. Will post when I receive it.
