"fu" in matrimonio annotation

Post by oilman19 »

I have in a matrimonio annotation "Carmina Angiello con Simone Signore fu Gennaro".
Would someone please verify that this indicates that Gennaro is deceased at the time of the wedding.

Thank you
Jim

Saw the topic title & it piqued my curiousity...this is what I found:

fu: short for figlio (figlia) del fu: son (daughter) of
the who-was-in-life. For example, Giovanni
Valente fu Nicola: Giovanni Valente, son of the
now deceased Nicola Valente. (Fu is the third-
person singular, simple past tense (preterit)
of the verb to be: he or she or it was.) Furono:
short for figlio dei furono.

figlia del (della) fu: daughter of the now deceased man
(woman).
figlio (figlia) di: son (daughter) of the living.
figlio del (della) fu: son of the now deceased man
(woman).
figlio (figlia) dei furono: son (daughter) of the now-
deceased parents. For example, Nunziata DiRenzo
figlia dei furono Giuseppe, e Maria Vittoria
d'Alessandro: Nunziata DiRenzo, daughter of the
now-deceased (father) Giuseppe (DiRenzo), and of
the now-deceased (mother) Maria Vittoria
d'Alessandro.
My past is all behind me now.
Looking for Andreola, Fino, Simone, Rossacci & Capece primarily from Casalvecchio di Puglia.
