Italian Surname misspelled -What could it have been?

Post by kimjones »

I received a death cert. listing my grt. grandmothers, mothers maiden name as MODESTA KAVIVIA, born in Italy. I know there is no "K" in the Italian Alphbet. I tried using "C" inplace but have not found any surname spelling variations even close to this. Any ideas?

It is highly probable (not certain) that the surname is CAVINA. There are 6 Cavina who immigrated thru ellis island to the USA. Peter

KAVIVIA is very close to KALIVIA, a village in Greece. Just a possibility.
