I see it slightly different:
August 21 1873
Priest name Blasio Birtone baptised Antonino son of Antonino Mancuso and Rosalia Buccheri
Godmother Maria Santa d'Andrea wife of Bernardo

For me the newborn was a female: i read Antoninam.
The godmother was Maria Santa D'Anna(?) wife of Bernardo Spera.

So you think the child was a girl? What would the English form of that name be? I am confused because 8 years later they had a child named Antonina who was my grandmother. I posted her Baptismal record a while back and there was some confusion with that one also. It is so hard to read the handwriting.

For reference the previous record was: http://img690.imageshack.us/img690/8880 ... maybeg.jpg

In my opinion the baby born in 1881 is a male and the one born in 1873 is a female.

If you find your grandmother's marriage record you will know which baptism record refers to her...

Thanks so much for your reply, but I have her birth certificate and Antonina was born in 1881 which is really confusing. I don't know who the child born in 1873 is or if it's a male or female.

there is a possibility that the Antonina born in 1873 died very young and the parents gave the same name to the new born in 1881...

This is my guess too.
