I was wondering if this was a second marriage for Giovanni. There is such a big age difference. The bride was only 20 and he is in his middle 40's.

Marriages were arranged, so it was not uncommon for a younger woman to be paired off with a much older man, although a family might take into consideration her wishes with regard to the selection of a marriage partner. This older man may have been a friend of her father-possibly a co-worker of his, or the family may have been extremely large and marrying her off was one way to get her out of the household and have less mouths to feed, as females tended to join the new husband's household after marriage. Despite the difference in age, it's always good to check to see if there were other marriages for an ancestor, as many had multiple marriages due to high mortality rates, even among the younger generation.
