i'd like a second set of eyes please on Francesco's occupation. i read custodi di animali. is this accurate? keeper of animals? is this similar to a games keeper?

i've done a few searches that have been unsuccessful in trying to find more information about what this professione is / does.

however, i did locate this site - http://www.scuoladusmetnicolosi.it/scar ... stieri.htm - which includes photos of some of the crafts of our ancestors.

thanks,
donna

custode di animali- was possibly someone who saw to the well being of animals out in the pasture and was related to the occupation of shepherding. I can't find anything definitive though, but did see the phrase in relation to caring for oxen, sheep, pigs, etc. Still searching for a better explanation though.

erudita, thanks for correcting the spelling and for giving a framework -- pastures / shepherding.

This link has a reference to the occupation in the 1800s-

http://www.benessere.com/remise/remise_ ... kneipp.htm

"Sebastian Kneipp nacque in Baviera nel 1821 da una famiglia molto povera. Lavorò come custode di animali in una fattoria, ma, crescendo, il suo unico desiderio era di studiare e di diventare prete."

He worked as a "caretaker of animals on a farm"-definitely a job related to agriculture-probably looked after the animals, fed them, saw to whatever needs they had
