I can't read it, but it also states that Vito's mother was living "in detta Parrocchia" (in said Parish). So, I suppose tha place is some area of Ariano itself. Doesn't it remind you any other you've already found?

hi pippo,
yes, this is a very hard one to read.

Vito Purcaro was one of the revolutionaries during the reunification. he went to prison with his father, Michele after being caught in the 1832 Carbonari insurrection spearheaded by Father Angelo Peluso. Father & son were both sent to prison. I think it was Gaeta. Michele died in prison, Vito was released sometime in 1848 under general amnesty, and rejoined the revolution. I do not have a time frame but from my research know I that he was again captured and sent to prison. I think this time it was at Ischia. His wife, Rosa di Stefano was born in Gaeta Latina. I don't know what happened to her. I have one source that indicates that by 1860 Vito's whole family had been deported but where is not indicated.

I am hoping that the location might help to give a clue as his movements after being released or if this death occurred while in prison, the location of the prison -- if that would be listed on the record.

thanks again,
donna

What you said was a great help to me...the act states he lived in Nisida. It is an island in front of Naples where an ancient castle was used as a jail for politic prisoners.

Thank you so much Pippo.

Would you happen to know if records were kept of prisoners / political prisoners? and if so, would they be housed in the town where the prison is located? or????

thank you, again.
