Post by ncolonna »

Hi,

Hoping to get some help with what I believe is a military record and an unknown record which I received from the State Archives of Bari.

Thanks for looking.

The first is a birth act for Vincenzo Damato:
Act date: June 11th, 1874 at 9 am
Birth date and place: June 10th, 1874 at 10pm, in strada Forni Vecchi
Father (declarant): Giuseppe Damato son of Giambattista, 40 years, laborer
Mother: Filomena Rex daughter of the deceassed Nicola, peasant
Side annotations state that he married Maria Giuseppa Ottomano on November 18th, 1901 in Rutigliano, and then, on January 14, 1907, Donata Santa Defilippis in Rutigliano, too.

As to the military record, something is missing on the left side, but it seems that the name of the person it refers to is Vincenzo, son of Donata Santa Defilippis, born on November 6th, 1907
(so, I suppose he was the son of the Vincenzo of the birth record).
Vincenzo had:
Height; 1,695 m Thorax: 85 cm
Straight brown hair
"Cervoni" eyes (this should mean between green and brown; particularly, green in the outer part, and brown towards the center)
aquilin nose
regular chin
rosy complexion
healthy teeth
can read and write
peasant

in short:
November 9th, 1926: passed medical examination
April 28th, 1927: started his service
December 1927: obtained a reduction of service to 7,5 months and discharged on the 16th
November 23rd, 1942: called to arms again, but discharged for having 4 or more dependent children

E' vero, era così scuro che non avevo letto il nome dell'intestatario in cima al foglio.
It was so dark that I had not seen the name of the person on the top of the sheet...
