Baptism of Ignazio Cusenza

Post by sacesta »

This one's been haunting me for almost a year. I have not been able to find the record of baptism for my 3rd great grandfather, Ignazio Cusenza. I believe he was born approximately 1794.

He married Caterina Bruno on 30 Apr 1818 at the chiesa di San Silvestro Papa in Calatafimi and then about 10 months later he married Antonino Sparacino (my 3rd great grandmother). That marriage occurred on 14 Feb 1819 also at San Silvestro.

Looking through the indices of the chiesa di San Giuliano Martire in Calatafimi I came across this promising entry (4th down on the right page)...

https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1 ... cat=730834

Which lead me to the next to last record on the left side of this page. Though this does not to be the Ignazio I am looking for. Can someone give me a read or confirm or deny that this is my ancestor?

Thanks Livio,

My eyes were tired and I misread the record. Anyway, this is not my Ignazio. The parents do not agree with the marriage record(s) I found for him. His parents are Giuseppe Cusenza and Antonina Sabena. I should have mentioned that in my first post.

Ignazio is elusive. He must have been baptized in another comune, or possibly another church in Calatafimi whose records have not yet been filmed?

Yeah, I found 3 Ignazio Cusenzas baptized around 1793-1794 in the indices of San Giuliano Martire, but none of them are mine. I couldn't find him in the books of San Silvestro Papa either, the place where almost all of my ancestors of that generation along my paternal great grandfather's lines were baptized.

I think I may try Castellamare del Golfo. A couple of my grandfather's siblings were baptized there. I have no leads to other comunes.

No. No luck there either. I did find one or two Ignazio Cusenzas, but not my guy.

Ignazio's mother's maiden name, Sabena is not a name native to Calatafimi and that makes me think that maybe the Cusenzas moved to whatever comune Antonina Sabena originated. Maybe Cuneo or Torino? That's were the surname seems to be most prevalent today.

The records for Torino at the famillysearch site date back only as far as 1827. And there are no genealogical records of use for Cuneo.
