I've been doing lots of research on my great grandfather and was able to track down this birth record
(ref 651 Constantino Illinesi) born 1888 in Cremona
It says the baby was born at 2:15am of day August 5th.
The one relevant thing I see is that he was not abandoned in the "wheel" but was born in the Hospital of Foundlings.

Grazie Pippo. Any names or location mentioned for further research ? I believe he grew up in orphanage at Cremona, but I guess there could be a few of them....
The baby was born in the "Ospizio degli Esposti e delle Partorienti", situated at 4, Piazza dell'Ospitale.
It doesn't say if he was then left in the same place to be grown up.
By searching in Google, it seems to be the only one there, but some local historian might be more accurate.
