Interesting find

Post by cj11788 »

Hello,

I was searching the 1593 Monreale riveli and found a great grandfather along with his wife and children but after that there were many other names, at least 30. I know they're not all their children since there is a different last name but what else could they be? I attached the first and second page of the riveli for reference. Could it be an orphanage?

Chris
The word after each of the non family members listed is garzone-which by current translation is a shop boy, errand boy, delivery boy, stable boy. In some parts of Italy, it was someone who helped out in the fields. In any case, they were employees who did the simplest of tasks.

That's interesting. That family must have had lots of money. Thanks Erudita.
