Dates of birth and marriage just don't seem right, please help!

Post by italian059 » 11 Mar 2019, 22:27

I have a baptismal for Paolo DiFulco born in 1777 and a marriage record for him in 1837 which would make him 60 years old. He then had two children from that marriage. I do not know the age of his wife as I think she may have been an orphan. I do not know of any other marriages for him either. I am really confused and wondering if I have the right records. I am attaching the baptismal and marriage records. Hopefully another set of eyes can guide me. Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much.

this is a death record for a Paolo Di Fulco son of Leoluca (Di Fulco) and wife, Calogera (her maiden name not given in this record). It is dated July 18, 1778, but the age of infant at death is not given. I suspect that this could be the death record for the Paolo born in 1777. So there must have been a son also named Paolo born to this same couple in a later year. The Paolo in the marriage record was not previously married and the bride was of unknown parents.

Here's another Paolo born to the same couple on March 5, 1787, but the surname in the index and in the record is spelled as "di Furco" and not "di Fulco." I can't explain to you why the priest used an "r" instead of the letter "l" when writing this record. I actually have a similar issue with my married surname where the letter was an "r" in the middle and eventually got changed to the letter "l" in the middle in the church records. So the reverse of your situation, but with the same two letters. Anyway, this 1787 Paolo could be the one who's in the marriage record.

Thanks so much, Erudita. You are such a big help. Thanks again. I would not have found that with the misspelling of the name.

I can now confirm that the 1787 birth/baptism record is for the Paolo who married Domenica in 1837. Here's his death record at age 64. The only issue is that his mother's surname is in correct in the record.

December 2, 1851
Death of Paolo di Fulco, age 64, husband of Domenica, with unknown parents, son of deceased Leoluca and deceased Calogera Mangiameli (mother’s surname is incorrect in this death record), who had been a married couple in this town, when they were alive

Wow, thanks Erudita. That is a big difference in names. So she has died also? Do you think Domenica was an orphan? I have a couple of records that list her as Proietta and 1 record says ber name was Cordova. How confusing. Thanks again. You’re awesome!

Here's Calogera's death record.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=968450

Death of Calogera di Fulco, wife of deceased Leoluca (di Fulco); daughter of Nicola and Giuseppa Terrana, age 63. On March 27, 1814

I have been looking for her parents' marriage record, to determine Giuseppa's surname, but so far, am not having any success. I have to abandon this for tonight. Haven't even thought about the Domenica issue yet. For another day.

I see there is a discrepancy between Calogera's father's first name in her death record (Nicola) and the name for her father in her baptism record (Paolo), which was previously translated for you. I believe you also previously posted her parents' marriage record, and the father's name was Paolo in that record as well. So, his first name of Nicola in her death record is incorrect, unless it was a middle name which was used in later records. I also see that you already have Giuseppa's surname from the other records.

I can't access the marriage record of the son which shows Cordova as the surname for Domenica. The link you had posted on another thread doesn't work for me.

Mary
I can't find any other record for this family in which Domenica's surname appears as Cordova.

I don't know if you have the death record of the son Leoluca in 1877 (Oct 21st) or the death record of Domenica on March 13, 1871. The links to the records and translations are below:

Death of Leoluca di Fulco, age 36, husband of Rosa Liggio, son of deceased Paolo (di Fulco) and Domenica of unknown parents-Oct 21, 1877

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=968450

*Rosa was his second wife; his first wife, Caterina Saporito -January 15, 1865; Domenica's surname is Proietta- in that record indicating that she was a foundling.

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=485628

Death of Domenica of unknown parents, age 55, widow of Paolo di Fulco -March 13, 1871

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cat=968450

I also checked the online civil records for Corleone to see if there was anything in those corresponding records which could shed light on the surname Cordova but, unfortunately, the 1871 and 1877 civil death records are not there.

I'm sure you already have this link but, last night, I meant to add it as well-
