Help needed translating vital record

Post by gemellua »

I am looking through the Caccamo 1820 birth records for Santo Galbo (father Giuseppe, mother - cannot make out the name-perhaps it's Josephine?). I see his name listed on page 3 of the contents - image 165. But when I go to the record - page 120, I see what appears to be a child that was born out of wedlock. Not sure, can't make out the type in the margin-hoping someone can help out.

Page 3 of content list

Thank you!

Your Santo Galbo is the next record (#121) dated 1 November. Birth on 31 October.
Father: Giuseppe, 23, shepherd
Mother: Sebastiana Cancilla, 18
Born at their home in the S. Domenico neighborhood at 10PM
Baptized on 1 November

Have another record I need translated.

http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 1.jpg.html

Is the husband Gaetano Rini or is this person just verifying the death?

Also is it usual for just one parent to be listed on a death record? Or is it that they list which ever parent was living at the time?

In this link...
Left record- husband is Giuseppe Barotta
Right record- this is the death of a child of 2y and 4m- Margherita Gallo

Gaetano Rini is reporting the death.

I believe the child's surname is Galbo. (I had taken a quick look at this yesterday but didn't have time to translate it.)

Regarding the death record of Margarita Galbo - I see the child's father is Giuseppe, can anyone make out his age? Is the mother listed?

Yes, the mother is Benedetta Medica. Neither Giuseppe or Benedetta's ages are given on the death record. However, on the child's birth record that mmogno has located we learn that, Giuseppe was 32 when Margherita was born on 18 January 1857. His occupation was possidente (landowner), which is odd because on the death record it says he was a Shepherd?. Benedetta Medica, the mother, was 22 in 1857. No occupation given.

Thank you AngelaGrace. I found Giuseppe's 1825 birth record. I'm sorry, the copy of the record is so light I am having problems making it out. I tried PhotoShop elements, it has helped a little, not much. Can any of you suggest a program that would help darken the records?

http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0

Anyway, I can make out a Vincenzo Galbo verifying the birth, but it looks like another name listed as the father, but as I've stated, I am having issues with the records being so light. I can't make out the mother's surname - Cirotto??. Her first is of course Margarita - Giuseppe naming his daughter after her.

Hello

I've translated the record for you here. The mother of this Giuseppe Galbo is Marianna not Margherita.

Birth No 5: Giuseppe Galbo

Registered in town of Caccamo: 7 January 1825

Appearing was Vincenzo Galbo, 36 yo? (trentasei), Pastore (Shepherd), living in the (quartiere?) neighbourhood/district of S. Domenico, who presented a baby boy, born from Marianna Galbo, 32 yo, living as above (come sopra), and from the declarant, details as above. He was born on 7 January 1825, at 6 pm in the house they lived and given the name Giuseppe.

Baptism details right colomn: Baptised 7 January 1825 in the parish of S. Elia.

The second page just gives the names and signatures of the official and witnesses to the presentation and registration details of the child. Vincenzo didn't sign as he was unable to write.

To get a better copy, sometimes just clicking on the image to enlarge it, then right clicking to bring up a new box, then clicking on "Open image in new tab" gives you a darker and clearer image. Otherwise save it to your computer and use the editing programme on your desktop. I'm not finding it too light.

Here's the marriage record of Vincenzo Galbo and Benedetta Medica, which gives you a little more information about their parents. The script in the record is a bit of a challenge so I've done the best I could. Hopefully it's correct. Somebody else will hopefully take a look.

Marriage No 4: Vincenzo Galbo and Benedetta Medica

Registered Caccamo: 29 January 1853

Married Parish of S. Elia 30 January 1853

Groom: Giuseppe Galbo, celibe (never married), 27 yo, born in Caccamo, Borgese (small land owner), living Caccamo, son of Vincenzo Galbo, 60 yo, occupation? living Caccamo, and of Marianna Concialdo/i?, 50 yo, living Caccamo.

Bride: Benedetta Medica, Nubile (never married), 18 yo, born in Caccamo, living in Caccamo, daughter of Nicasio (looks to be spelt Nicazio) Medica, 40 yo, occupation?, living in Caccamo, and of Margarita Scimeca 40 yo, living Caccamo.
http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... 3.jpg.html Not

Here's the Notification. Some of the names are a little clearer there. I can't make out the fathers' occupations – Maybe "Patron of...."?: http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0

(Re Marianna's surname, I believe today it is spelt Concialdi but seemed to be spelt either way in the records.)
