And would appreciate a cross-check on the below translation.
Birth Act of Emmanuela Ruggiero:
1878_Ruggiero_Emmanuela_BirthAct.jpg
Act #57. Dated August 29, 1878. Appeared Angiolo Ruggiero, 36 years old, farmer, domiciled in this comune, who declared that on the 28th of the current month, in his house in [blank] #77, to Maria Ioanna, his wife, farmer, living with him, was born a female child to which is given the name Emmanuela.
To the above and to this act were present as witnesses: Angelo Ruzza, 60 years old, farmer, and Pasquale Iannazzo, 70 years old, farmer, both residents in this comune. The present act was read to all and signed only by the official as the rest were illiterate.
You are welcome. I am reading Ioanna. We often see spelling errors in American marriage records, so I personally wouldn't trust the marriage record. Maybe another pair of eyes is needed here. While I have researched some towns in the province of Avellino in the past, I'm not au fait with the town of Fontanarosa, so I can't really say whether Ioanna is a common surname there. Sorry. I know it appears there as does the name Iovanna. You might find the following name distribution map interesting: https://www.mappadeicognomi.it/en/index ... a&s=Searchmnaccarato wrote: ↑14 Jan 2020, 22:39 Angela - thank you! I'm unsure that the mother's name is 'Maria Ioanna." Is Ioanna a common surname in the town? I read it as Joanna, and it's stated as 'Maria Joanna' on Emanuela's marriage record when she got married in New York. What are your thoughts?
mnaccarato wrote: ↑15 Jan 2020, 05:02 That is helpful. I see that it definitely is possible. I think the best next step would be for me to find the marriage record of Emmanuela's parents to see how it looks spelled on there. I will go to my local FHC soon. Thanks!

The mother's name in both of these is "Iovanna" which makes more sense to me than "Ioanna." I'm thinking Iovanna is the correct one. One of these children has the same name as Emmanuela, so I'm thinking maybe she died between when she was born and the second Emmanuela was, I will look into that.
Could you please translate the two birth records?
