Post by scraig32 »

I need some help translating the marriage document for Antonino Perez. In particular I am looking for

1. when marriage banns were posted.
2. Did his first wife, Maria Anna Napolitano die? If so, does it list her date of death?

This is what I can translate
Groom:Baron Antonino Perez, age 51, born in Palermo. Profession ? Residence? Father: Carlo Perez, deceased. Mother, Teodosia ?, deceased
Bride: Carmela Galotta, age 25, born in Palermo. Residence?

Thank you so much for your help!!!!

I am trying now to locate the marriage banns but am having a hard time. I am looking in Baida- 1835 Matrimoni Processeti. Do you think that is the correct place to look?

Oh thank you so much!! I know how long it takes to look through all those pages. I really appreciate you finding these for me.

I also went through 1835 Matrimoni Processeti to see if I could find the other documents needed to marry. In particular, I am looking for Antonino's first wife's death document- Marianna Napolitano. I could not find anything. However, since the marriage was for January 1836, marriage banns posted December 1835, I took a chance and looked in 1836 matrimoni processiti and found some of the banns!!!! Sadly, I don't see the death document for Marianna Napolitano. Would you or someone else be able to take a quick look at the document attached to see if you can tell when she died. Thank you very much for your time!!!!

Hi Suzanne

This marriage record that you have posted here, which you have found amongst the processetti is a handwritten copy of the original marriage record that you initially posted here, which Livio helped to translate, and as he said, there is no date of death given for Maria Anna Napolitano. All it bascially says is that her Death Record is included amongst the Processetti/Allegati (marriage attachments).

Anyways, I've located the attachments and amongst them I believe is Maria Anna Napolitano's Death Extract. It's a Latin church record so I suggest you post it separately as a Latin document and someone will help you with it. I don't really read Latin so well.

Baptism Extract Antonino Perez: http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0

Baptism Extract Carmela Gulotta:

Death Extract: D. Maria Anna Napolitano: http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0

Death Extract: Carlo Perez: http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0

Death Extract Teodosia Grimaldi: http://dl.antenati.san.beniculturali.it ... ewsIndex=0

I'm so disappointed- I found Maria Anna Napolitano's death listed in the Palermo 10 year index- She died in Sant'Agata on the date that Angela found for me. But all of 1821 is not available. She died in September, and the records stop in July. Hopefully, someday they will be available. Thank you both once again!!!

Yes, it is disappointing. It would be great to have closure on this one. You've been searching for quite a while. The records you are needing have slowly been coming on line. Hopefully after the lockdown more records will be made available.

Anyways, I was just looking at this myself. So Maria Anna Napolitano's parents were Nicolo' Napolitano and Provvidenza Damiani? Is that correct? If you are not sure, then It would be really good to find the Civil Death Record to see whether it has Antonino Perez named as her husband there? I took a look in S. Agata yesterday and as you say, not all the records are online, only a few for the year 1821.

Edit to Add: Just to clarify:

(The Church Death Record does say "wife of Antonino" but for some reason it looks like it includes Antonino's mother's name??? I can't work it out?)

Take care.

Yes, I have been working on this for a long time now. But have gotten so much recently, thanks to your help and Livio's. It is very exciting to get new bits of information that lead to new discoveries.

The story of my Maria Ana Napolitano is that she was the illegitimate daughter of the Prince of Castleforte. He had no legitimate children and eventually left Maria's daughter, Ippolita Perez some goods. It is interesting to know that part of Ippolita's long list of names given at baptism included Provvidenza. I do not know if the 0parents listed on her death record- Nicolo and Provvideeza are both her adopted parents or if perhaps Provvidenza is her birthmother. It is really really fascinating and I just can't believe that I have come to learn all of this since lockdown. I looked back at my original posts on this site and they were 8 years ago. I have learned so much!

I have high hopes that more records will eventually be added and many more wonderful discoveries will be made. Until then, I thank you for your help in this case and in all the others you, and all the wonderful people on this site, have given me over the years. What a wonderful community! Thank you, stay safe, and be well.

Suzanne
