Handwriting translation on the record note - could use another to verify
I have attached the marriage notation from a birth record and I am looking for another set of eyes. I see the wife's name as Maria Bascaloni and that the marriage took place in Napoli (Mercato) 1903. The B in Bascaloni is questionable and the marriage date, it looks like 23 - 5 1903 or July 5, 1903?
Re: Handwriting translation on the record note - could use another to verify
The date is 23 May 1903 as I see it.
Record #207 in Napoli (Mercato quarter)
I am reading the first letter of Maria's surname as a "P" -
Possible that the surname is Pascalino? That name is found in Napoli.

Re: Handwriting translation on the record note - could use another to verify
Using the Julian calendar which is what I find is used in many record indexes through the 1800's, I thought the 5th month might be July. But maybe in this instance it actually is May?
Re: Handwriting translation on the record note - could use another to verify
May is the 5th month... both before and after the Julian calendar was established.
1 - gennaio (January)
2 - febbraio (February)
3 - marzo (March)
4 - aprile (April)
5 - maggio (May)
6 - giugno (June)
7 - luglio (July)
8 - agosto (August)
9 - settembre (September)
10-ottobre (October)
11-novembre (November)
12-dicembre (December)
The months September through December are also written with a numerical notation usually found in the indices: 7bre, 8bre, 9bre, 10bre - This is based on the Pre-Julian names of the months based on their numerical stem.
