I don't understand why everyone is getting so uptight here. My original response to Revert was not offensive. I tried to point out that there are people like myself who are more that willing to help
anyone with a 'bit of translating'. But for large documents, like the one posted by Revert, it would have been better to approach a translation service. My comments were intended to point out to others - without offending anyone - that large specialised translations are a costly business - in time for the translator and in cash for the client. I'm certain that many people who ask for help translating something have (maybe) never used a translation service before. For that reason I tried to give anyone reading the thread an idea of how these services often calculate their charges. My motives were no more and no less than that!
Now - for some reason - posts are being deleted 'every which way'. Well I'll not delete mine. I have no reason to.
In fairness to others who don't understand Italian, I have taken the liberty to translate your post Revert. But I can't understand why you are taking this stance. As a new member here I was trying to help by pointing out how I
personally felt about your request. That's why I said that there "may be someone else here who would be willing to help you".
And before anyone says that I have wasted all this time writing this - yet couldn't do the translation....allow me to make two points on why I have done so:
i. I feel that any instances of 'deleted' posts, without a reason why, is really not helpful to
any other members. I personally find this practice of constant editing (common on many sites, but rarely on this one) is often mis-used as a way to cast aspersions about someone and then to eliminate/deny that it was ever said.
ii. I chose to write this long post because the time I spend on Italian Genealogy is
my spare time. I do not work here, nor am I part of the administration or a moderator - and as it is Sunday morning (well
here it is) I've chosen to try and understand just
'what the heck is going on here'?
