Teatro Massimo (Palermo Opera House)

Post by LinJ47 » 14 Feb 2010, 04:42

Has anyone ever visited the Teatro Massimo, the famous opera house in Palermo? My great grandfather, Baldassare Magri, was a marble sculptor from Palermo, who worked on the carvings there before settling in the US in the early 1900's. I have never been there but it is on "my bucket list" Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Linda,
Teatro Massimo is one of the beautiful theater i have never seen (Paris,Wien, Rome, Milano and others) . I'm born and live in Palermo but this is not the reason for what i think about this theater. i visited this theater several time : one summer night , thanks to my friend who worked there, we get up to the roof of the theater. What a beautiful scene !!! This is the official website : http://www.teatromassimo.it/ (italian/english). Have you just read the story on wikipedia? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teatro_Massimo

in the picture attached your ggf was one of the "men at work"...

best regards
I'm searching lost relatives and descendant of my greatgrandfather Vincenzo Genualdi (or Gennaldi or Genuardi) and my greatgrandmother Concetta Davola (their sons: Angela, Carmela, Antonio, Bartolomeo, Ernesto, Simone, Riccardo, Maria) went in Chicago,Ill., and New Orleans, in 1880-1920 from Sicily. Other family related : Jacobucci or Jacopucci (from Central Italy).
