Porto San Elpidio

Post by scrobin » 30 Aug 2016, 05:13

I will be visiting Italy in October and have recently discovered that my great grandparents are from Porto San Elpidio. I am visiting this town and would love to see my great grandparents homes. I am having difficulty finding information as to who I contact for the addresses. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

There are currently 31 MARTELLINI listings in the Italian Phone Book (landlines) in Porto Sant'Elpidio.
Perhaps you could write to one or more of these "potential" relatives to inquire about he home of your GGPs

I would like to give an update on my research. I pulled up the Martellini listings in the Italian white pages and randomly chose to send letters to 15 people. I had no expectations of receiving any responses. Well, I received an email from a woman in Porto Sant'Elpedio whom I believe to my third cousin!! I have also emailed the city requesting information in regards to my great grandparents and am waiting for a response. I thank you for helping me begin this journey. It is quite exciting!

Hi. My 2nd great grandmother was Giovanna Martellini from Civitanova Marche, the next town over from S'Elpidio. The priest in S'Elpidio allowed me to take photos of the State of the Souls records when I was there last month. I copied some of the Martellini families because I thought she may be connected to them. Martellini is a very popular name in Civitanova Marche. Actually there is a building in the main plaza that is referred to Palazzo Martellini where the family lived a long time ago. I was told by my cousins in Civitanova that the Martellini family was well off and had a ship building business and got involved in the railroad. I could email you the documents if you are interested. I also visited the Civitanova Marche cemetery and took many pictures of Martellini graves even though I didn't know if I was related to them or not. Thanks!

Joey
