I've spent the last several weeks tracking my cousins in the Niro family (descendants of Antonio Niro & Carmela Venditti) many of whom settled in the Milford area; so, the Casalvecchio Category has only increased modestly while the Milford Category is nearing 200 profiles.

One of my Niro cousin's, Maria "Grace" https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Niro-59 ,marriage to Angelo Pilla introduced some new family names into the mix. The Pilla family (like the Canelli's) appears to have originated in Fragneto L'Abate, Benevento, Campania while a family very closely allied with the Pillas, the Martellucci family appears to have originated in Isernia, Isernia, Molise.

Be aware on the 1889 Birth Index that all the "F" surnames are listed at the end of the index after the "Z" surnames......Fratta, Frate, Fusco, Flocco, Fiore, Ferrucci, Ferrara & Farinacci.....

Just a few of the new connections made and some examples of how tightly woven these families were in their home town and continued to be in their post-immigration locations:
Pompilio Laterza (aka La Terza) from Montecalvo Irpino, Avellino, Campania moved to Casalvecchio and married Alba Maria Sangiuliano in 1877 (her parents were Giuseppe & Orazia Andreano). Pompilio & Alba Maria's daughter Vincenza (aka Vincenzella) married my cousin Orazio Niro in Milford MA in 1915. Orazio's brother, Alfonse/Alphonse married Mariannina Pannichella (of Casalvecchio) also in 1915 in Milford. Mariannina's older brother Saverio married Vincenzella's older sister Grazia Maria Laterza in Milford in 1908........
https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Laterza-3

My sister's godparents at her 1954 christening were known to us only as Matteo & Carmela Rossacci of Milford MA. When I first started on this journey I assumed that Matteo was a relative through my GGrandmother Fioralba Rossacci--which he turns out to be, but we have to go back a couple of more generations for common ancestors in Marcello Rossacci & Teodora Brunetti; he is my third cousin once removed. However, I've since learned that Carmela's maiden name was Niro. Our common ancestors were Antonio Niro & Carmela Venditti. Carmela (Niro) Rossacci was my second cousin twice removed. I wonder how much of this my father knew-and really wish he would have shared it!

Even before the waves of emigration, the latter half of the 1880's appears to have been a period of much movement in & out of Casalvecchio with individuals and families like the Laterzas moving in and settling there and with Casalvecchians(?) going out and settling elsewhere. Orazio & Alfonse Niro's (noted above) father married Rosa Virgilio from Gildone, Campobasso, Molise and it appears that he moved with her there to raise his family before coming to the USA and settling in New York.

As I've tracked more families, I've learned that Milford, MA was not the only location that our kin settled in large numbers. New York City, Baltimore Maryland & Cleveland Ohio are just a few of the clusters I've seen. Inital, very tentative, discussions are in progress with some folks who may be our cousins from the Casalvecchians(?) who settled in South America.

Meanwhile, back at the ranch.... ..the alphabetical listing has grown to about 850 profiles interlinked in some fashion.

Well, I've reached some sort of milestone (at least it seems to me) of more than 1000 profiles of connected Casalvecchiesi. I now have to be extremely diligent to not create duplicate profiles as I add new people but it is so much easier to attach a new-found child to already exisiting parents. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category: ... a%2C_Italy

After the last 6 months of immersion into these records a few big picture items seem to be taking shape for some of my ancesteral lines:

My grandfather's Andreola family appears to have been in Casalvecchio for at least several generations prior to 1800. There are a multiplicity of Andreola patriarchs in the records post 1800.

My grandmother's Fino family appears to have started in Casalvecchio with the marriage about 1800 of Alesio Fino to Maria Giuseppa Ferrucci. (The Ferruccis also appear to have deep roots here.) Every Fino I've tracked in Casalvecchio from 1800 on is directly descended from this couple. Sadly, I have not been able to find where Alesio Fino came from. I do know that he started a legacy of blacksmithing that continued to his sons, grandsons and beyond.

My direct Fino ancestor, Alesios's son Francesco, married Carmina Colavita in 1845. Her father Alesio Colavita was born in ~1799 in Sant'Elia a Pianisi, Campobasso, Molise and married Lucia De Salvia in 1822 in Casalvecchio. Every Colavita in Casalvecchio reviewed so far appears to descend from that marriage.

My DNA tests show a significant percentage of Balkan (Arbereshe) ancestry {34%} in addition to more a 'traditional' Italian percentage of {9.9%}. 23 & Me goes so far as to say "We predict you had ancestors that lived in Albania within the last 200 years." The more I'm learning from chasing the paper trail, the less this seems to make sense to me. Unless the Ferrucci + De Salvia + Rossacci (my GGM) genetic influx added enough Balkan DNA to balance the Fino + Colavita Italian DNA on my grandmother's side...? I don't know, I think I'll just stick to the old-school records where I feel more at home

I was posting with Erudita yesterday and thought that a bit of info she helped me to understand was the start of a family story. The more I thought about it, the more it actually seems to be the end of what I'm able to find out about this story.

It starts on my paternal grandfather's side with my 3XGGF Antonio NIRO's sister Carmina (1809-1897). She married Mercurio CIVETTA (1804-1877). They had a long fruitful life and a large family. This was not to be the lot for their daughter Maria Michela CIVETTA (1849-+1910).

Maria Michela's first marriage in 1870 to Angelo TUSONE (1847-1872) ended in 1872 with both her husband and their only child, Michelarcangelo, dead. She married Fortunato FRATTA (1846-1876) in 1873 and had one child before he too passed away. We will return to their only child Mariannina FRATTA (1874-1955) shortly. Next, Maria Michela marries a 63 year old widow from Carlantino, Nicola Pasquale PERNA (~1816-1886) in 1879. This marriage only lasts for 7 years but, they have a daughter Louisa Mariangela (b.1880). Louisa Mariangela PERNA (my second cousin three times removed) goes on to marry Giuseppe CAPECE (b.1876) in 1898. Giuseppe is my second cousin twice removed through my paternal grandmother's ROSSACCI family....but that is a story for another day; let's return to Maria Michela's first daughter, Mariannina FRATTA.

Mariannina (my second cousin three times removed) married Giovanni FINO (my first cousin twice removed) in 1895. Giovanni is the son of Luigi FINO (1851-1875) and Maria Luigia CALZONE (1848-+1910). Luigi's parents are Francesco FINO & Carmina COLAVITA (my 2X GGP on my paternal grandmother's side).

Luigi & Maria Luigia were married in 1869 and have two more children before he died in 1875. Both of these children were daughters named CRISTINA and both died as infants; Cristina #1 (1872-1873), Cristina #2 (1874-1875). Maria Luigia married Giovan Giuseppe TOSCHES (b.1854) in 1880. It becomes apparent now that Maria Luigia is adamant for/obsessed with? the name Cristina. Cristina #3 is born in 1880 and dies in infancy. Cristina #4 is born in 1882 and only survives for a few days. Maria Luigia & Giovan Giuseppe go on to have 2 surviving daughters, Mariannina (b.1883) & Alessandrina(b.1884), and a son, Matteo(b.1887).

Matteo's 1910 marriage is where Erudita helped me to understand that Matteo's father, Giovan Giuseppe, was still living, BUT, nobody knows where he is! Did he abandon the family? Or did he go overseas to help support the family and they're just not sure where he is? I'll probably never learn how this part of the story ends, but, I know from the beginning part of it that I have deep respect and admiration for Maria Michela and Maria Luigia. Their willpower and determination to continue despite all that was thrown in their paths is remarkable!

It now appears that the COLAVITA family has additional branches in Casalvecchio with deeper roots than known in the text above. I have connected Donato COLAVITA (b. ~1770) who married Maria BECCIA (b. ~1770) in about 1790 to their son Agostino COLAVITA (~1792-~1840) and his wife, Arcangela INCORONATA (1805-1885). Agostino and Arcangela were married Oct 21, 1821 and had 4 known children:

-Francescantonio "Francesco" (B. Jan 24, 1824) who married Maria Giuseppa TUSINO (B. 1382 in Casalnuovo Monterotaro) in 1855.

-Lucia (B. Jul 30, 1826) who married Nicola Maria TOSCHES in 1857. Nicola was the son of Michelangelo (B.~1806) and Anna " Mariannna" PALESE (B.~1807) who were married in 1829. Marianna was the daughter of Michele (b~1770) and Eufemia ANDREOLA (B. ~1770) As of July 2018, I have yet to tie Eufemia in with my Andreola ancestors. One of Lucia and Nicola's sons, Michelangelo C. TOSCHES (1858-~1919) married Tommasina COLAGIOVANNI (1863-~1935). One of Michelangelo and Tommasina's daughters, Mariannina, married my grandfather's older brother Giovanni ANDREOLA.

-Giovanni (B. Dec 27, 1832) and Nicola Maria (B. Oct 7, 1835) have not been tracked so far.
After Agostino's death, Arcangela married Michelarcangelo "Michele" FINO in 1841. Michelarcangelo (1811-1890) is the brother of my direct ancestor, Francesco. Michelarcangelo was first married to Annantonia COICO (~1809-~1840) in 1836. Annantonia's older sister Anna Rosa married Michelarcangelo's older brother Angelo in 1823. Annantonia and Michelarcanglo had 3 known children:

-Giuseppe (1836-~1841)

-Maria Raffaela "Anna Maria" (1837-1897) who married Michelarcangelo D'ALOIA (18317-1872)in 1858

-Anna Rosa who married Pasquale FRATTA (B. 1833) in 1865
I am in the process of entering Maria Raffaela & Anna Rosa's families into the tree.

Arcangela INCORONATA and Michelarcangelo FINO had 3 known children.

-Giovanni Maria (1843-~1845)

-Giovanni Maria (1846-~1910) who Married Filomena MOSCHILLI in 1871 (also in process)

-Giuseppe (1842-1898) who married Maria Concetta CAPECE (1851-1903) in 1872. Maria Concetta's parents were Giacomo (1811-1871) and Leonarda Antonia NIRO (1813-1884) who were married in 1831. Giuseppe and Maria Concetta had 7 known children:

-Elisa Maria (1875-1945 in Milford) who married Giacinto ANDREANO (1870-1946 in Milford) in 1890. Giacinto's father Martino's (1838-1883) death record was the first I've found with the term "padre incerto" used-which explained why only his mother was listed in his birth trancription. (Others have been found since) Martino married Maria Luigia CAPECE (1836-1883) who was the older sister of Maria Concetta in 1859. Giacinto's sister Eremigia (B. 1864 ) married Giovanni Battista ANDREOLA (B. 1858) in 1883-this family also moved to Milford and I will eventually add more details to their descendants.

-Enrico Luigi "Henry" (1877-after 1942 in Milford) no known spouse or children.

-Eduardo Maria (1880-1881)

-Grazia Maria (1882-1884)

-Aurelia Maria "Laura, Lauretta" (1884-1915 in Milford) who married Raffaele FERRARO in 1906.

-Grazia Maria Arcangela "Grace" (1887-1918 in Milford) who married Luigi RUGGIERO in 1907.

-Michelarcangelo "Michael" (1891-1979 in Milford) who married Enrichetta "Rita" FUSCO (1889-1957 in Milford) in 1912. Rita's parents were Pasquale (B. 1847) and Maria Pasquala CANELLI (B. 1848). Rita's sister, Maria Louisa married Enrico NIRO (B. 1874 -my first cousin three times removed) in 1906.
See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Fino-73 for more details about Giuseppe FINO & Maria Concetta CAPECE's family.

Another 'glitch' I just stumbled on- in the 1893 Birth Index, all the surnames beginning with "D" are located between the "R"s and the "S"s. De Mattia, De Salvia, De Luca, De Rocco, D'Aloia, De Cesare, Del Buono, De Matteis and D'Ardes.

I've now concluded my research into Maria Raffaela "Anna Maria" FINO (1837-1897) who married Michelarcangelo D'ALOIA (1837-1872) in 1858. It appears that much like the Fino family being associated with blacksmithing, the D'Aloia family is associated with masonry. Most of the men in this family have their occupation listed as muratore. This family also introduces some new surnames into the mix.

I've only got as far back as Crescenzo D'ALOIA (B. ~1782) who married Maria CORDONE (B. ~1785) in about 1802. I've found 5 children for this family:
1. Francesco (B. ~1804) who married Maria Rosa GIROLAMO in 1822.
2. Giuseppe (1807-1882 ) ---see below
3. Eufemia (B. 1814) who married Giovanni Antonio BECCIA in 1834
4. Biase (B. 1818)
5. Rosario Maria (B. 1820) who married Catarina VENDITTI in 1841. Catarina's parents were Celestino VENDITTI (B. 1793) and Maria Michela IACOVELLA (B. 1792) who were married in 1813. Celestino's parents were Leonardo & Catarina CALZONE/ Maria Michela's were Onofrio and Lucia CUTAIO.

Giuseppe married Teodora IERONIMO (?IARONIMO) (1807-1880) IN 1825. Her parents were Francesco & Michelangela D'ALEA. Giuseppe and Teodora had 10 known children from 1827 to 1853; Michelarcangelo being the 3rd. (you can see more about the other children at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/D'Aloia-10)

Michelarcangelo D'ALOIA & Maria Raffaela "Anna Maria" FINO had 6 known children; 3 died in childhood/3 survived.
1. Luigi (1860-+1910) married Maria Amalia Sofia COLAIANNI (~1861-+1910) in 1879. Amalia Sofia was born in Lucera to Maria Leonarda COLAIANNI and an unknown father. Luigi and Amalia Sofia had 8 known children
--Ermina (B. 1880) who married Raffaele Michele (Michele) NIRO (B. ~1880 in Castelnuovo Della Daunia) in 1903. His parents were Leonardo & Cristina PALESE who resided in Castelnuovo Della Daunia. Only 2 children known so far for Ermina & Michele: Maria Albina Cristina (B. 1904) & Leonardo Luigi Nicola (B. 1910).
-- Carolina (1883-1886)
--Michele (1886-1886)
--Maria Carolina (1888-1966)
--Michelarcangelo (B. 1891) who married Palmina Maria (Palma) Tosches (B. 1889) in 1914. Palma's parents were Pietrangelo and Maria Adele DE MATTIA.
--Giovanni (B. 1894)
--Grazia Maria (1897-1908)
--Pasquale (B. 1900) who married Immacolata LOMBARDI in Casalnuovo Monterotaro in 1941.

2. Annantonia (1861-1866)
3. Maria Nicola (1864-1866)
4. Maria Nicola (1866-1867)

5. Maria Nicola (B. 1868) who married Giovanni Maria BUONAMICO in 1885. Giovanni's parents were Pellegrino (~1834- 1885) who was born in Morcone, Benevento, Campania and Maria Giovanna IACOVELLA (1823-1894). Maria Giovanna was married first to Nunzio Giuseppe Maria CASSETTA in 1851. Her parents were Michele (B. ~1800) and Maria Pasquala CAPECE (B. ~1800) who were married in 1819. Pellegrino & Maria Giovanna had 2 other known children: Maria Nicola (B. 1865) who married Donato Antonio PACIFICO in 1887 and Maria Michela (1868-1870).
Maria Nicola D'ALOIA & Giovanni BUONAMICO had 6 known children.
--Maria Pasquala (1886-1886)
--Annantonia (1888-1898)
--Maria Pasquala (1890-1891)
--Michelarcangelo (1892-1961) who married Maria Donata DE SALVIA (1886-1966) in 1911. Maria Donata 's parents were Nicola Maria (B. 1865) and Rosa Maria NIRO (B. 1862). Rosa and I are second cousins three times removed through the Niro family. See MUCH more for both Nicola & Rosa at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Niro-119
--Giuseppe (1895-1901)
--Antonio Maria (1898-1901)

6. Maria Annuziata (1871-1940 in Torremaggiore) who married Vincenzo TUSINO (B. ~1870 in Casalnuovo Monterotaro). Vincenzo's parents were Pasquale (1832 in Casalnuovo Monterotaro-1886 in Casalvecchio) and Filomena ANDREANO (1835-+1910) who were married in 1857. Filomena's parents were Francesco Saverio (~1808-1870) and Lucia ANDREOLA (~1810-1868). Lucia and I MAY descend from common ancestors Vincenzo & Maddalena BULSO.
Maria Annuziata D'ALOIA & Vincenzo TUSINO had 3 known children in Casalvecchio before they moved in the very early 1900's to Torremaggiore. I have not dug any deeper into their records there.
--Grazia Maria (1893-1894)
--Pasquale (1895-1897)
--Anna Maria (1899-1940 in Torremaggiore)

As I've gone through this particular branch of my tree, the infant/child mortality rate in the latter part of the 1800's has really jumped out at me. It drives home just how hard these times were in that part of the country and makes me understand a little deeper why the waves of emigration were occurring.

Re: Casalvecchio di Puglia

Post by NickAndreola »

I have finally had some free time and have just about finished inputting all the information I've located for Anna Rosa FINO (1839-1904).

Anna Rosa was the 2nd wife (23 Feb 1865)of Pasquale FRATTA (1833-1897). Pasquale's parents were Diodato (~1806-1874) and Gelsomina IANIRO (~1800-1880). Diodato's parents were Francesco & Maria Leonarda FARINACCI-both from Casalvecchio. Gelomina's parents were Pasquale & Maria Teresa CAROSILLO. Gelsomina and her family were from Volturara Appula which is located roughly 15 miles southwest of Casalvecchio.

Pasquale's 1st wife (28 Nov 1861) was Maria Filomena FRATTA (~1840-~1864) daughter of Giuseppantonio (~1802-Bef 1866) & Maria Giuseppa BATTONE (~1814-1873). Giuseppantonio's parents were Silvestro (Born ~1780) and Donata CATALANO (Born ~1780). Maria Giuseppa's parents were Antonio (~1790-1870) and Anna Maria DE VINCENTIS/DE VINCENZO (~1793 -Bef 1866). Maria Filomena's older brother was Pasquale FRATTA (1837-1890). See (3.) below for the reason to mention this connection.

Anna Rosa & Pasquale had 8 children; however the specter of the unimaginable infant mortality rate is shown again and only 2 of their children survived to have families of their own!
1. Matteo (1865-1867)
2. Filomena (1868-1868)
3. Concetta (1869-+1910) See below. Concetta's family appears to have stayed in Italy
4. Michele (1872-1873)a
5. Maria Giuseppa (1874-1895)
6. Maria Filomena (1878-+1940) See Below. Filomena's family all moved to Milford MA
7. Matteo (1881-1882)
8. Grazia Maria (1883-1891)

3. Concetta (1869-+1910) This gets a little complicated but I'll do my best to be clear. Concetta married 1st (25 Oct 1890) Giuseppantonio FRATTA (1866-1897). Giuseppantonio's parents were Pasquale (1837-1890) {See above for the connection} and Lucia DE CESARE (1844-1867). Giuseppantonio was their only child before Lucia died.

Concetta & Giuseppantonio had 2 children before he died:
1. Lucia (1891-1893)
2. Lucia (1895- ?) On 18 Sep 1913, Lucia married Matteo RONSETTI (1888-1968). Matteo's parents were Michele (Born 1869) and Filomena FIORITO/FIORITI (Born 1859). Michele's parents were Pellegrino Bartolomeo (Born ~ 1816 in Benevento, Benevento, Campania) and Lorenza ANDREANO (Born ~ 1820). Lorenza's parents were Mercurio (Born ~ 1790) and Mariangela D'INZEO (Born ~ 1790 in Castelnuovo Della Daunia) who were also the parents of the Orazia ANDREANO mentioned back on the May 4th post who married Giuseppe SANGIULIANO.

Filomena FIORITO/FIORITI's family name is variable. FIORITTI is seen from the later documents. Her father, Nicola (1835-1882) started out as an ESPOSITO (see link on previous post) but took on his mother's surname (Anna Maria FIORITO/FIORITI) . Filomena's mother was Maria Louisa IACOVELLA (1830-1897) the daughter of Michele (~1800-Bef 1866) and Maria Pasquala CAPECE ((Born ~ 1800). They were also the parents of Maria Giovanna IACOVELLA (1823-1894)----SEE 5. + BUONAMICO in the July 21 post.

FIORITTI descendants still living in the area should look to Filomena's brother,Francesco Paolo (B. 1875). His children were all given the FIORITTI surname. Francesco Paolo married Maria Cristina D'ALOIA (1877-1961) in 1897. Her parents were Giuseppe (B. 1842) and Maria Michela SAGIULIANO (B. 1843). See the July 21 post for Giuseppe's parents Giuseppe & Teodora IERONIMO. Maria Michela's parents were Giuseppe and Orazia ANDREANO mentioned in previous paragraph (confused yet?-just wait HA!)

After Giuseppantonio FRATTA (1866-1897) died, Concetta married his 1/2 brother Leonardo FRATTA (B. 1876). After Lucia DE CESARE (1844-1867) died, their father married Leonardo's mother Maria Cristina FLOCCO (B. 1847). Her parents were Donatantonio (1819- Bef. 1866) and Olimpia ANDREANO (~1817-1891)
Concetta & Leonardo had 2 known children:
1. Pasquale (1899-1974)
2. Rosario Giuseppe (B. 1901)

6. Maria 'Filomena' (1878-+1940) married Michelarcangelo "Michele" DE LUCA (1874-1919 in MA) in 1898. His parents were Leonardo Matteo (B. 1831) and Rosa Maria ANDREANO (B. 1833). Rosa Maria's parents were Francesco Saverio & Lucia ANDREOLA (see July 21 Post). Leonardo Matteo & Rosa Maria ANDREANO had another son Matteo (1863- Bef 1920) who we will discuss at the end of this.

Filomena & Michele had 10 known children. The first 3 were born in Casalvecchio, the rest in Milford MA where the family settled:
1. Giovanni/John (1900-1979) married Lucy VENDITTI (1905-1994) in 1922-no known children.
2. Pasquale/Patrick (1902-1975) married Maria Santina FERRUCCI (1903-1976) in 1924. Santina is also a cousin through her mother Carmela NIRO. Patrick & Santina had 1 daughter, Loretta (1925-1997) GIACOMELLI.
3. Leonardo Giuseppe Salvatore "Joseph" (1905-1994) married Annie Josephine SALVIA (B. 1909) in 1929. Joseph & Annie had 5 children; Michael (1930-2016), Filomena/Phyllis (B. 1931)ABLONDI, Gioachino/Jack (B. 1935), Angela (B. 1940) and Carola Ann (B. 1942) PATETE.
4. Michele/Michael (1908-1995) married Jennie Dorothy GRILLO (1910-1986) in 1931-no children located yet.
5. Rosina/Rose (B. 1911) married Luigi H. PILLA (1908-1986) in 1933. They had children-not tracked.
6. Frank J. (1913-1993) married Edith C. MEOMARTINO (1912-1995) in 1939 -no known children.
7. Nicholas (1915-1976) -no known children.
8. Antonio/Anthony (1915-1987) married Antonette TOMASO (1916-1983) in 1940. They had children-not tracked.
9. Louisa (1918-1918)
10. Giuseppe/Luigi/Louis (1919-1920)

Because of some confusion on my part and in the records, I did a partial track of Michele DE LUCA's brother Matteo (1863- Bef 1920). Matteo married Filomena FRATTA (B. 1871-+1920) in 1888. This Filomena was the 1st cousin of the Filomena tracked above. Her parents were Annantonia COLAIANNI (1837-+1888) and Giuseppe (1833-bef. 1888). Giuseppe was the brother of Pasquale (the father of 'our' Filomena).
Matteo died sometime before 1920, when this Filomena brought her younger children with her to the Cleveland, Ohio region. At least one of her older children was already there. From the light tracking I did, it appears that this was the area where her children settled as well. I hope the Ohio and the Massachusetts branches kept in contact since they are so closely related!

There are now about 1500 profiles in the Casalvecchio category at wikitree. Way too many of them are Filomena FRATTAs HA!

I've finished up tracing Giovanni FINO (1846-+1910), the youngest known child of Michelarcangelo and his 2nd wife Arcangela INCORONATO.

Giovonni married Filomena MOSCHILLI (1854-+1910) on Nov 20, 1871. Filomena's parents were Nicola (1828-1882) and Maria Pasquala FRATE (1824-1883). Nicola & Maria Pasquala were married May 1, 1851 and had 7 other known children: Filomena (1852-1853), Polidoro 1855-1864), Giovanni (B. 1857), Anna Maria (B. 1859), Diodato (B. 1862) and Polidoro (1865-1868).

Nicola MOSCHILLI's parents were Polidoro (B. ~ 1795) and Maria DE SALVIA (B. ~1798). Nicola was one of 9 known children from born from 1816 through 1836. Maria Pasquala FRATE's parents were Luigi (B. ~1796) and Rosa IACOVELLA (B.~1796). Maria Pasquala one of 10 children born from 1817 through 1838.

Giovanni FINO and Filomena MOSCHILLI had 9 known children:
1. Michele (B. 1874) Michele married Maria Filippa FIORE (B. 1886) on Feb 15, 1903 and had 2 known children Giovanni Antonio Eduardo (1904-1967) and Maria Giuseppa (B. 1910). I'm sure there are others but the records run out in 1910.

2. Nicola Maria (B. 1877) I've been unable to find any continuation for Nicola.

3. Maria Belvisio (1879-1932 in Minnesota). Known as Louise, she married Michele 'Michael' FRATTA (1879-1937 in Minnesota) on May 28, 1903 in Minnesota. Michael's surname somehow became 'americanized' into FRATTO--all their children carry that name. His parents were Francesco (1851 +1910) and Annantonia FIORE (1848-+1910). They were married Dec 1, 1877.

Francesco's parents were Gennaro (1811-1867) and Maria Michela FRATTA (1812-1879) who married on Feb 9, 1840.

Gennaro's parents were Matteo (~1787-bef 1866) and Arcangela DE CESARE (~1794-1866) who married Feb 5, 1810. Matteo's parents were Giovanni (b.~1765) and Irene RICCARDI. Arcangela's parents were Felice (B~1774) and Carmina D'ANDREA (B.~774).

Maria Michela's parents were Nicola (B.~1789) and Antonia TOCCI (B.~1789)

Annantonia FIORE's parents were Michelarcangelo (1816-bef 1877) and Raffaela NIRO (1817-1890) who were married Dec 27, 1841. Michelarcangelo's parents were Emanuele (B.~1785) and Lucia ANDREOLA (B.~1785). Raffaela's parents were Teodoro (B.~1787 ) and Teodora SANNICANDRO (B.~1787 ).

The record trail was unique for Louise & Michael. His father, Francesco, filed the marriage publication in Casalvecchio (Michael was already in Minnesota) and then Francesco esorted Louise to Minnesota where the marriage occurred. I've found 10 children for Louise & Michael:
Antonetta (1904-1905), Anthony Louis (1905-1988), John George (1906-1996), Antoinette (1909-2005), Mary Florence SNYDER (1910-1992), Rose C. BARTA (1913-bef 2007), Frank Lawrence (1915-1981), Margaret M. (1917-2010), Elizabeth Louise CONWAY (1919-2012) and George F. (1922-2007). Again, all these children and their descendants carry the FRATTO surname. They all settled in the St. Paul area except for George F. who settled in Illinois after his WWII service. I try to separate current events/my personal political opinions and genealogy as much as possible; however, for all American Trumppets who may be reading this: have a look at the military service given by just this one family of 1st generation descendants of uneducated brown Southern Italians and try to feel some shame in what you say today.

4. Maria Pasquala (B. 1883) I've been unable to find any continuation for Maria Pasquala.

5. Pasquale (1885-1885)

6.Giovangiuseppe (1886-1886)

7. Giuseppe (1887-1965) Giuseppe married Maria Vittoria ANDREANO in Casalnuovo Monterotaro on Jan 14, 1912.

8. Teresa (1890-?) Teresa came to the USA in 1913 with her 1st cousin Aurelia (FINO) FERRARO (1884-1915). I haven't been able to find any continuation for Teresa.

9. Mariantonia (1896-1898)

Before I move on to the descendants of Angelo FINO and Anna Rosa COICO, I'm going to take side trip down SIMONE Ave. Since discovering this loci of Casalvecchiesi in St Paul Minnesota, I see another family on the same census pages that I'll track before moving on.

Because this SIMONE family was also seen in St. Paul Minnesota, I did some tracking and found that they were indeed also from Casalvecchio.

Francesco/Frank SIMONE (1871-1948) married Mariannina NAIMO (1873-1954) on Nov 4, 1893 in Casalvecchio. Their first 4 children were born in Casalvecchio and their 5th known child was born in St. Paul in 1910....

I have not researched Mariannina/Mary's family upstream. Her father, Fortunato, was born about 1831. His father was Pasquale who was deceased by 1873. Her mother was Antonia GIORDANO. Antonia was the daughter of Teodoro who was deceased by 1873. Both of Mariannina/Mary's parents were alive in 1893. Her father may have died between 1898 and 1902.

Francesco/Frank's parents were Maria Paola Filomena (Filomena) ANTUZZI or ANDUZZI (1844 in Casalnuovo Monterotaro-1884) and Vincenzo (1834-1885) who were married Dec 20, 1863. I have not researched the ANTUZZI or ANDUZZI line. Vincenzo was one of 10 known children of Giuseppantonio (~1805-bef 1866) and Maria Pasquala IACOVELLA (~1805-1884) who were married Nov 25, 1822. Giuseppantonio was one of 10 known children of Fortunato (B. ~1793) and Camilla IACAMPO (B. ~1793). See more about Fortunato & Camilla's descendants by clicking on the "Descendants" tab here https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Simone-83

Francesco/Frank SIMONE and Mariannina/Mary NAIMO had 6 known children:
1. James (born Vincenzo in CdP 1895-1965-1948 MN) who married Maria PARENTE (1896 in Casalnuovo Monterotaro-1969 MN) and had 12 known children.
2. Filomena (1898-1900 CdP)
3. Giovanni (1902=1902 CdP)
3. Paquale/Pascal/Pat (1904 CdP-1947 MN) who married Elsie BEST and had 3 known children
4. Mary A. (1910 MN-1997 MN) who married Mr. GEIST with no children known.
5. Anthony (~1918 MN-bef 1997) I have not found confirmed continuation for Anthony.

After adding these individuals to the family tree, I moved on to continue my work on the descendants of Angelo FINO and Anna Roso COICO and what did I find...? Their first child I began tracking, Brigida FINO's, first husband is Pasquale SIMONE! So I'm not off of Simone Ave yet--now just at the intersection with Fino Blvd. HA! Much more work to do but I already know that all of Brigida and Pasquale's descendants are my double-cousins:
Pasquale and Nick are first cousins four times removed through common ancestors Michele SIMONE and Carmina TOSCHES. (My Grandfather's ancestors)
Brigida and Nick are first cousins three times removed through common ancestors Alesio FINOand Maria Giuseppa FERRUCCI. (My Grandmother's ancestors)

I'm learning that its best to go through this process like eating a bowl of spaghetti. Just take the bitefuls as they come and add everything I can as I go instead of trying to just pull one noodle off the plate. Chances are really high that all those other noodles are going to be connected eventually anyway.....

Angeo FINO & Anna Rosa COICO were married Feb 2, 1823. Their first known child, Giuseppe Maria (B. 1823) either moved away and married or more likely did not survive to an age to marry. Their second child, Maria Giuseppa (1825-~1830), did not survive. Their third child Brigida Maria (1828-1882) did survive and have two marriages .

Brigida & her first husband Pasquale SIMONE (see previous post) were married Jan 11, 1852 (to 1861) and had two known children. I've just completed tracking their first born Francesco SIMONE (1852-1902).

Francesco married Maria Concetta MANCINI (1858-aft 1910) on Dec 20, 1874. Her parents were Michele (1823-bef 1874) and Maria Filomena MUCCI (1832- aft 1874) who were married Nov 29, 1851. I have not tracked them yet but, Michele's parents were Francesco & Domenica SANGIULIANO. Maria Filomena's parents were Giovanni (B ~1790) & Maria Carmina DE LUCA (B ~1792) who were married Feb 17, 1810.

Francesco and Maria Concetta had 10 children - as far as I can determine now all remained in Casalvecchio:
1. Pasquale (1876-+1910) married late in life to Mariannina ANDREANO (1886-+1910) on Sep 27, 1908. Mariannina's parents were Pasquale (1854-+1910) and Maria Giuspeppa MANCINI (1859 in Casalnuovo Monterotaro-+1910) who Married Oct 21, 1882 in Casalnuovo Monterotaro. Pasquale's parents were Giuseppe Maria (1827-1889) and Maria Diletta DE RITIS who was born in Volturino--marriage about 1850, likely in her hometown. Pasquale's sister, Maria Concetta ANDREANO was the wife of Giuseppe PANNICHELLA whose children married into both my NIRO and another branch of my FINO families.
Pasquale and Mariannina ANDREANO had one known child (based on Mariannina's age there are likely others post 1910) a daughter, Annita (B. 1910).

2. Matteo (1878-+1910) married Maria Michela BULSO (1881-+1910) on Oct 26, 1902. Her parents were Leonardo Maria (1843- bef 1902) and Maria Giovanna FARINACCI (1844--+1902) who were married Dec 30, 1865. Both these Bulso and Farinacci families have more ancestors and siblings in the tree.
Matteo and Maria Michela had 3 known children (likely there are others). Francesco Leonardo (B. 1904) who married Married Luigia SCOCCO on Aug 29, 1927. Maria Arcangela Mattucia (B. 1906) who married Pasquale CIVETTA on Feb 1, 1927. Michele (B. 1909) who married Concetta CRESCENZI? on Oct 13, 1932. Haven't been able to decipher the handwritting on her surname-take a look and tell me what you see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Simone-186
3. Giuseppe Maria (1880-1886)

4. Antonio Maria (1883-1957) who married Lucia CAPUTO (B. ~1889 in Casalnuovo Monterotaro) on Mar 6, 1909 in Casalnuovo Monterotaro.

5. Vincenzo (1885-1894)

6. Giuseppe (1888-1976) no marriage record located.

7. Giovanni (1891-1961) who married Maria Giuseppa FUSCO (1894-1954) on Feb 22, 1914. Maria Giuseppa's parents were Giovanni Maria (1871-+1910) and Maria Nicola DEL BUONO (1872-1895). See #8 below for Maria Nicola's brother Antonio Maria DEL BUONO. Their parents were Giuseppe (1845- bef 1910) and Maria Giovanna MASULLI (1848-+1910). Giovanni Maria FUSCO's parents were Pasquale (1847-+1910) and Maria Pasquala CANELLI (1848-+1910) who married Jun 17, 1870. These Fusco & Canelli families have more ancestors and siblings in the tree including children who married into both my NIRO and another branch of my FINO families.

8. Mariannina (B. 1893) who married Antonio Maria DEL BUONO (B. 1887) on May 29, 1910.

9. Lucia (1897-1899)

10 Lucia (B. 1900)

Next up is Brigida FINO & Pasquale SIMONE's only other known child, Carolina, who married Giovanni MAZZONE.
