Casalnuovo Monterotaro in Foggia

Post by NickAndreola » 28 Nov 2018, 13:59

As I've explored the records of Casalnuovo's neighbor commune, Casalvecchio, I've found so many cross-over marriages etc... between the two communes that I've had to do some digging into these records as well. My organization system for the much larger Casalnuovo is not nearly as intense or as complete as it is for tiny Casalvecchio.

The primary link ishttps://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043436

I've begun work on some short-cut sheets which are far from complete, but which I'd be happy to share as-they-are with anyone interested. The 1875-1890 Birth/Marriage/Death alone has over 2500 pages (=lot's of clicking to get to later pages!) Typical organization shown below:

1880 birth index pg 660 (records AFTER)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043436
1880 marriage publication index pg 722 (records AFTER)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043436
1880 marriage ACTS index pg 748 (records AFTER)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043436
1880 Deaths pg 775 (records AFTER)
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=2043436

The Casalvecchio books normally have the index at the end of records. Casalnuovo's are normally at the beginning. There are lots of other idiosyncrasies to pay attention as well. For instance, the record keeper here uses an alphabetical ordering style that dismisses things like D' and De on the front part of the surname. So D'Arcangelo will be listed in the "A" section as Arcangelo and De Nunzio will be listed in the "N" section as Nunzio....so you need to be on your A-Game HA!

Even with the limited research done there are a few things that jump out at me. In Casalvecchio, for every AGNUSDEI, there are 4 or 5 ANDREOLAs in the indexes. In Casalnuovo for every ANDREOLA, there are 9 or 10 AGNUSDEIs. (Including the mayor in the time period above, Carlo AGNUSDEI)

Keep taking a look at the Casalvecchio topic alsohttps://www.italiangenealogy.com/forum/ ... taly/42017 as it is the base of my research.

Happy Hunting!

Cousins,
A quick explanation for all about how to navigate the records with the short-cut sheets.
In the example above with 2500 pages, you can start by clicking on one of the linked indexes and that will get you into the records at that exact index. If you don't find what you're look for there, DON'T CLOSE THE FILE. Use the page numbers noted in the text above the links.

For example if you start at the index for 1879 Deaths and want to go to 1880 deaths, see this text "1880 Deaths pg 775 (records AFTER)"

Simply type 775 in the box in the upper left of the screen (by the page forward/backward arrows) and then hit ENTER. You will jump to page 775 without having to either scroll page by page or having to close the file and re-link to get back in.

After some practice you can jump pretty quickly into the individual records that you're interested in. On the 'newer' records; Birth records are typically 3 to a page, Death records are 4 and Marriage records are 2. The 'older' ones take a little more thought as they tend to just be filled in page after page. If you're in the 'newer' records and find a Birth record in the index; say #50 out of 100 . 50 divided by 3 = about 17 pages (forward or back depending on the index location relative to the records) so 775 +/- 17 = jump to 758 or 798 (hit enter) and you're very close to the record.

This will save you a LOT of time. I can't wait to see all the connections y'all are working on!
Nick

I'm starting to track a branch of the D'ARCANGELO family that lived here since at least the late 1700's, the descendants of Pietro (B.~1782) & Angela GENTILE. My specific interests are with their grandson Leonardantonio (Antonio) (B. July 8, 1848) who married Maddalena ANDREOLA (B. Aug 14, 1848) on March 23, 1871 in Casalvecchio di Puglia and and in their great grandson Vincenzo D'ARCANGELO (1888-1942) who was one of my grandfather's best friends in Milford, Massachusetts and who with his wife Antonetta TOSCHES were my father's godparents.

Some of the allied surnames : D'ALESIO, MANCINO, FERRECCIA, GIORGIO, DE ROSA, DE CICCO/DI CICCO/D'CICCO.

I would love to hear from anyone that may have an interest in these families from Casalnuovo!

This branch of the D'Arcangelo family is still in progress. As usual , I've found additional connections into other branches of my family that have to be explored more fully. For example, one of the grandsons of Pietro & Angela, also named Pietro, was the father of Carmela D'ARCANGELO who married Giuseppe FINO in 1910. One of Carmela & Giuseppe's daughters, Fioralba , married Giovanni/John D'ALOIA. Fioralba & John were my godparents. Pull on one string and......

Here is the beginning of the family story that I've learned of so far.
Pietro D'ARCANGELO (B.~1782) married Angela GENTILE (B.~1782) about 1802. So far I've found 4 children for this couple:
1. Paolo (B.~1803) married 1st Rachele FERRECCHIA on Jan 8, 1819. Her parents were Matteo & Angela GIORGIO. He married 2nd Diamanta FERRECCHIA on Jan 19, 1848. Her parents were Rubino and Maria Rosa DE ROSA.

2. Nicola Pasquale (B.~1805) married Maria Giuseppa DI CICCO (B.~1805) on April 22, 1824. Her parents were Vincenzo & Chiara DONADONI(A). Nicola Pasquale's younger brother Michele married 1st to the younger sister of Maria Giuseppa.

3.Michele (B. ~1808/9) married 1st to Angela DI CICCO (see above) on May 9, 1832. He married 2nd to Carmela/Carmellina D'ALESIO on Jan 28, 1841.

4. Vincenzo (B. Feb 18, 1810) married Anna Saveria LIZZABELLA/SABELLA on May 1, 1831 in Castelnuovo Della Daunia. Saveria was born in Castelnuovo Della Daunia. All the records from her birth town use the surname LIZZABELLA. After their marriage they move to Vincenzo's hometown of Casalnuovo Monterotaro where her surname is shown as SABELLA. Saveria's parents were Filippo and Angela LA CIVITA (or as some records show CALIVITA(--Colavita?)

Much more work to be done :!:

I haven't dug into Pietro D'ARCANGELO & Angela GENTILE's known children #1 & #2. Child #4, Vincenzo, is tracked below as far as I have time to complete now.
Vincenzo (died bef 1871) & Anna Saveria (died aft 1871) had 9 known children:
--Rosa (B. May 23, 1832) married Gennaro ATTERATO on June 29, 1850.
--Giuseppe Maria (1834- ~1836)
--Lucia (1836- ~1848)
--Giuseppe Maria (B. August 1, 1837)
--Antonio Maria (B January 22, 1839)
--Maria Giuseppa (B. November 11, 1842) married Paolo CELESTE on February 9, 1860.
--Maria Leonarda Lucia (B. Feb 10, 1846)
--Leonardantonio "Antonio" (B. July 8, 1848) married Maddalena ANDREOLA (B. August 14, 1848 in CdP) on March 3, 1871 in CdP, they then moved to CM and had at least 5 children: Maria Giuseppa in 1872, Maria Angela Luisa in 1874, Vincenzo in 1876, NIcola Pasquale in 1882 and Teodosio in 1886. Maddalena ANDREOLA's parents were Matteo & Maria Filippa ANDREANO. Matteo's parents were Vincenzo & Maddalena BULSO. Maria Filippa's were Pasquale and Maria Giovanna PERNA.
--Lucia (B. March 16, 1854)

The connections into the D'ARCANGELO family that my father's and my godparents were both from Child #3, Michele. more detail into that family later.

#3 Michele D'ARCANGELO's (~1809- Aft 1886) 1st marriage in 1832 to Angela DI CICCO/DE CICCO/D'CICCO (~1810-~1840) produced 4 children:
---Nicola Pasquale, 31 Jan 1833 (died by 1839)
---Giuseppe Pasquale, 29 Dec 1835
---Pasqualantonio (Antonio), 05 Dec 1836. He married Maria Mattea DE VITA on 14 Aug 1858. Her parents were Francesco Paolo & Chiara SANTOMARCO. Antonio & Maria Mattea had at least 3 children; Michele Maria, 12 Jun 1859, Michele Bartolomeo, 29 Jan 1863 and Chiara Maria, 06 Feb 1865....probably more in the post-1866 records.
---Nicola Pasquale, 22 May 1839

Michele D'ARCANGELO's married 2nd in 1841 to Carmela (Carmellina) D'ALESIO (21 Feb 1820- Aft 1885). Her parents were Giovanni (B. ~1775) and Carmina MANCINO (B. ~1775) who married ~1795 and had at least 7 other children; Carmela being the youngest of the 8 known children.
Michele and Carmellina had 3 known children:
---Donato Leonardo, 06 Aug 1844. He married Eudocia FERRECCHIA on 05 Apr 1865. Her parents were Pietro & Maria Donata DE LUCA.
---Leonardo, 19 Jul 1847. He married Maria Carolina CANELLI (B. 04 Feb 1856 in CdP) on 18 Jan 1874 in CdP. They then moved to CM where all their known children were born. Maria Carolina's parents were Luigi Beniamino (~1819 in Frasso Telesino, Benevento, Campania- 15 Mar 1874 in CM) and Chiara Maria BECCIA (27 Mar 1823 in CdP - Aft 1885 in CM?). Luigi Beniamino & Chiara Maria had 10 known children. Maria Carolina was #5. The 10th child, Maria Michela Carmela will be seen below married to Leonardo D'ARCANGELO'S younger brother, Pietro.

Chiara Maria BECCIA's parents were Angelantonio (B. ~ 1796 CdP - Bef 1866) and Domenica COLAIANNI (B. ~1794 CdP) who married on 3 May 1817. Another child of theirs, Donato Matteo (B. 22 May 1825 CdP) married Concetta ANDREOLA (B. 06 Dec 1825 CdP) on 8 Feb 1853.

Angelantonio BECCIA's parents were Matteo (B. ~1775) and Vincenza FLOCCO (B. ~1775). Matteo & Vincenza's daughter Carolina (B.~1796) married my third great grand uncle Francesco Donato SIMONE (B. ~1793) on 19 Apr 1812.

---Pietro, 24 Aug 1860. He married Maria Michela Carmela CANELLI (B. 8 May 1868) on 28 Feb 1885. See more about the CANELLI's above. Note that Maria Michela Carmela's mother was 45 years old in 1868!

Next I will explore Leonardo & Pietro & their CANELLI wives further.
