What country was Brescia Lombardy in 1795? Francesco BIANCHI

Post by sonata24 »

:?: What country was Brescia, Lombardy, in 1795? Was it part of Italy? Was it part of Austria? Was it part of Swizerland?

I need to know to find out what types of records I would need to check to find my 3rd great grandpa Francesco BIANCHI. I need to know where to check to find if there are existing birth records.

(Since he became a priest, before fighting with Garibaldi (about 1830?)and leaving the priesthood, there may be some records of him in the Vaticin Archives, but I doubt I can check there. (Family legend.)

His tombstone said he was born in Brescia in 1795.

Thanks for any help.

In 1426, Brescia became a possession of the Republic of Venice, and remained such until 1796.

Germany?

But all existing records should be in the town & province archive.

As for the Vatican records, you won't know til you try!

Hope this helps.

Thank you for your help. I am looking into writing the archives in Brescia for the information.

I am using my form letters and Italian dictionary since I do not speak or write Italian.

Sincerely,
