Re: Calabresa, Italy
Calabresa does not exist. Maybe you mean from Calabria (and people born or living there are called Calabresi).
Re: Calabria, Italy
Calabria is what I meant, Thank you for the correction.
So I am again asking is anyone here from Calabria? I am looking for two lines of my family. My great grandfather Frank Moyer (last name spelling may be different) and Minnie Sandore (last name spelling may be different.)
They both came to Ellis Island in the Mid 1800's.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Well, Calabria is a Region, with many towns and villages you should try to be more specific. Moyer does not seem to be an Italian surname...
Re: Calabria, Italy
From other information I have received the last day or so my great grandfather's name for one thing is Frank so in Italian it would be Francesco? and his last name spelling could be Moi or Moier or some derivative.
The problem of the spelling of his name comes from his italian speaking to an american census taker not being able to clearly understand him and then putting down the wrong spelling. Some how along the way it became Moyer for his and Minnie Sandore's Children when they were born here in the USA
I was told by my father's cousin that they met on a ship on the way to the US and got married here and had their family. I now am wondering if that story is even true.
I am grateful for the info I have received so far from this site.
I am not sure of the area they are from but I was told that my great grandmother spoke of Calabria often so I suspected that is where she is from at least so I thought it would be a good place to start.
I do not know if Minnie is an Italian name or a nickname for an Italian name. If anyone has a suggestion as to what the first name maybe instead of Minnie, I'd be greatful. Also, I was told her last name was Sandore, maybe it's Sandora or another Italian derivative.
I'm also looking to find out if these families were or still are in the area in or around Calabria and if there is a way to find out what ships and the passenger names were at the time so I could go thru the lists to find their names.
Any help is always appreciated.

I found it for Carmela, or Carmina, too.

Re: Calabria, Italy
I have some information on Frank Moyer. He was born March 10, 1863 in Calabria, Italy and he died Feb 1, 1950 in Groton, CT.
Now, how do I go about getting his birth certificate?
I still have no info on who his parents are or how to get it unless there is still family there.
Thank you,

What was deleted? Did I post something incorrectly?
If I did, I don't remember what was here. Can someone advise?
