Find Death Record for Amadeo Scrivano

Post by rp76226 »

Amadeo Scrivano (born Amadeo, but used Tony Scrivano in real life) was born in Alimena, Palermo, Sicily on Feburary 15, 1890 to parents Salvatore Scrivano and Francesca Tedesco. He married Maria Salvatrice Cerami in Manhattan on February 22, 1914. They lived in New York City and possibly for a time in White Plains, NY. This is my wife's uncle. To her knowledge, the couple had no children. She remembers as a child in the mid-1950s living in NJ being told that her uncle Tony Scrivano was trying to fix something in his car and he needed to rev up the engine. He used a block on the accelerator to do that. Unfortunately, the gear slipped out of neutral and the car moved crushing him to death. We are trying to find his exact death date and location. To our knowledge he may have had a sister Giuseppa or Giuseppapina. His widow died in Brooklyn on July 14, 1989. She never re-married. My wife thinks that Tony was in the printing business.

Hi Ron,
I found this for Mike Scrivano, same date and place:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... 3AKXYZ-22L

Also, on Ancestry I see a WW 2 Draft Registration Card for one Mike Amedeo Scrivano, born in Alimena on Feb 15th, 1892
And naturalization:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1999177

So, I think he might be the right person.
If it's him, the New York death index on Ancestry reports he died on Jul 19, 1961 in Brooklyn:

(maybe you need a subscription to see it)

And then, he might be this one:

Thank you. I think that you have found the right person. In viewing your information, I went back to the 1890 Nati records again for Alimena where he was born and came up with another puzzle. The index lists the birth of two Amadeo Scrivano's for 1890 - numbers 18 and 59 in the following link:

https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947613

#59 is him and agrees with what I already have on my Tree. #18 is not an Amadeo Scrivano. Cannot find a second Amadeo Scrivano for 1890. Here is the link for number 18:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903 ... cc=1947613

Our biggest puzzle for us however, comes from the 1930 census Lines 95 - 100. There he shows up as Mike again (since the family only knew him as Tony). However, the wife's first name is correct and their ages are correct. Also, the Pergola's are family too, with the Scrivano and Pergola wives being sisters which is why we think this census lists my wife's family members. The problem is that there are two children listed on the census for the Scrivano's, and my wife, their niece, who was born 17 years later, is sure that they never had children as they were never mentioned nor there at family occasions. The Scrivano wife, Maria Cerami, lived to 1989 to age 95. The Pergola wife, Epifania Cerami, died in 1932 at age 45. Now, my wife wonders if they had children but they died young. Here is the link to the census:

As a follow up to my 1930 Census comments about the surprise of children being listed for the Scrivano's (ages 5 and 9 in 1930), in the 1940 census for them (Lines 12-16), they were living at the same address and this time, there were no children living with them. If the 1930 census was correct, in 1940, those children would have been 15 and 19 years old, thus likely still living with their parents. Link for 1940 census:

The other thought we had about the 1930 census was maybe those children were really the Pergola children and just listed in the wrong place, but we have no record of them ever having children either. The Pergola wife died two years later or 15 years before my wife was born, so we really know nothing about them and have found nothing in our searches.

Ron,
I couldn't find any trace of the Scrivano Children.
I've only found out that the the Pergola's actually had one baby named Vincent, but he was born in Dec 1930 (census is of April), and died one month later:

Thanks. Wrong Pergola. The wife's maiden name would have been Cerami.

You are right. There was another Fanny Pergola, wife of Salvatore, living in Brooklyn.

Check your original post about the children.
I have located a possibility for their identity.
