Re: Shipped GIava 1843

I'm personally not familiar with naturalizations for such an early period of time, but there are links at the website below which might be useful to you:

Re: town of birth

Donna I did a search of surnames on the antenati website last night before I went to bed and, oddly enough, there are two individuals with the name Porzia Bevilacqua which come up for the town of Trani in Bari Province but that doesn't help with Basilicata. Bevilacqua was the surname of the grandmot...

Re: town of birth

Basilicata The link below shows the four districts of the province of Basilicata and the names of the towns in each district. Nothing close to what appears in your record. (pp.89 and top of p. 90). I also considered that the town in the record started with the letter G, but that hasn't helped. https...

Re: town of birth

Donna
I was originally considering Pizzilli, but all I have been able to find is the following, which was not in Basilicata, as far as I know:

La frazione di Pizzilli fa parte del comune di Santa Croce del Sannio, in provincia di Benevento, nella regione Campania.

Re: town of birth

Donna
The second part is "di Basilicata." Until 1926, all of the towns in Lucania were in the province of Basilicata. Then the region was divided into the provinces of Potenza and Matera. I can't find any town in either of these provinces which looks like the spelling in your record.

The Roma is the next ship after the Italia on the missing manifest option-starts with frame 476. You may have already found it.

Re: Liberty-Ellis database manifests?

Basically trial and error. I first put in the date you had of March 26. 1907. That gave me T715, roll 853, frame 1. I then kept hitting the +4 option until I had exhausted all frames for that roll. I then tried the next roll 854, and went through the same procedure. Then when I didn't see the ship t...

Re: Liberty-Ellis database manifests?

You may want to get your hands on a book called The Family Tree Guide to Finding Your Ellis Island Ancestors by Sharon DeBartolo Carmack. One subject I know she addresses is how passenger lists were created and what they contain. I know she talks about babies born at sea, for example, and how they a...
