It really seems a good guess!
I had not seen the photo, but it can be. I have a photo of my GP's wedding (1942) originally black and white, but coloured in a studio.

I'm sorry for the delay; also forgive me for the translation, but I generally have some problems when writing English, so you can imagine what I can do with old Italian laws.
You can find Italian "Codice Civile" of 1865 simply by writing "Codice civile 1865" in Google Books.

They must have been areas of the Commune. "Contrada" means a hamlet in the country. You can take a look at this

We now seem to have confirmation that my GM was "taken in" by the Carnevale family, and not officially adopted by them. It is also interesting that the letter says that my GM was could claim compensation for work done Angelo's house...I wonder if compensation to children "taken in" is included in ...
