Re: Death Record from Sicily

I suppose you only need the data about the person who died. If not so, tell me.

Rosa Miraglia.
On August 24th, 1866, at 5 p.m. in the Town House of Marianopoli.
Before me, Francesco Landolina, etc etc....declared that Rosa Miraglia died in her house today, at 2 p.m.. She was 84 and a "filandiera ...

I confirm my opinion: the mother did not agree about the marriage, so she wasn't at the office to give her consent.

You wrote:
"e dichiarato che per essere in ciò discorde la moglie fua Rosaria Robilotta non e qui comparsa"
For deceased people you would generally find the word "fu", not "fua", that does not exist. In this context, it would be good to read from the original document.
In fact, in the writing of XIX ...

Re: Discorde in the Family

What I meant is that, when I replied, I was wondering if you had some problem with the comprehension of Italian language, or you wanted to know what was beyond the disagreement. As I had not read the document, I could not give an answer...I could only say what the meaning in Italian was. By reading ...

Re: finding family records in Scafati and Atrani

Atrani is still a very beautiful place, even if a it must have changed a lot since 1961, above all in the way of life of people. On the contrary, Scafati is a horrible town with a lot of traffic.
Well, when you are coming, let us know on the Forum. If I'm around, I'd like to know you, and if I can ...

Re: Good service to order Italian Birth Certificates

My experience with Salerno is that I e-mailed them (I still have the address, if you want), and they sent me a digital copy of the act.

Re: Discorde in the Family

Well, if you just want to know what it means in Italian...yes, that's it. It means that she did not agree (probably, about the marriage)

Re: finding family records in Scafati and Atrani

My experience with this area is that clerks are not used to e-mailing, even if we are in the 3rd millennium...you can hope in an exception!
Do you know Atrani, or have you ever seen it in pictures?

Re: Is this document written in Ladino, Old Occitan or other

It seems to be half Latin and half some French/piedmontese dialect.
If you go back to page 261, a note states "ce patois limousin, mélé de Latin, doit remonter vers 1300". Now, I don't speak French, but in some northern areas of Italy, near to France, "patois" is a dialect. So this should be a ...

Re: finding family records in Scafati and Atrani

There are various kinds of records:
- In offices of the Commune you will find births, marriages and deaths ("Stato Civile" records). In Southern Italy, these are generaly from about 1809 onwards. Communes also hold "Stato di famiglia", but I think these are only from 1930 (but I'm not sure).
In ...
