Re: Help with English to Italian please
Thanks Livio, very helpful. If it is any help the dress examiner would check finished garments for defects. The railroad job I'm going to have to check with someone in my family to see what the position entailed.

Ok, thanks that makes things simple. However, I'm coming up with 2 addresses, the one you posted and this one:
Ufficio dello Stato Civile
Comune di Trieste
passo Costanzi 2 - piano II
34100 Trieste TS

I need to send for a birth record for 1923 when Trieste did not belong to Italy. Will the records be at Ufficio dello Stato Civile Comune di Trieste?

Re: Question about alien registration card for consulate?
I seriously doubt it since I have his Italian birth record, the Italian marriage and birth certificates of his parents, grandparents and siblings, plus the ship manifest of the whole family immigrating together.
He didn't tell the family he was from NY it is only on the census and draft reg.

Re: Question about alien registration card for consulate?
Exhaustive doesn't quite describe it. You were much better off if the ancestor naturalized. My grandfather married an Italian American citizen so his wife won't have a card. He was also fond of saying he was born in New York which it says on his draft reg and the 1920 census, not helpful. I've got a...

Re: Question about alien registration card for consulate?
Thanks Debbie. My grandfather died before the alien registration card was required in 1940 so he obviously didn't have one. He immigrated in 1901 when he was a minor. Did minors need Italian passports?

Question about alien registration card for consulate?
On the LA consulates website they state they want the Italian passport and alien registration card if there was no record of naturalization. I've got my no record from USCIS, NARA and the NY County Court. I've searched Ancestry and come up with nothing for the passport and alien reg card. I don't ha...

Re: Translation and apostille question please?
Thanks so much, exactly the information I needed. I'm going through my grandfather on my father's side so does that mean I won't need an apostille and translation for my mother's birth cert?

Re: Translation and apostille question please?
You can't ask the consulate these questions in advance because they don't respond to emails or the phone. It only says on the website that all the documents that will be filed in Italy must have an apostille but it does not say which documents those are. I'm getting my marriage and divorce records a...

For those who need an IRC from the P.O.
This info sheet just went out to retail supervisors at the P.O. about international reply coupons. If you are in need of an IRC and your P.O. tells you they don't know what they are, they don't have any or they try to sell you an expired IRC, print this and take it with you to help with the ordering...
