You may also access Ancestry.com for free at your local Family History Center. Ancestry has the Census records through 1930.

I also found a ship manifest from June 1946 with a "Peggy D. Pannitti" return to US with daughter Caroline Pannitti, age 3 months. Ship was the U.S.A.T. Saturnia.

I don't know if you subscribe to Ancestry.com, but there is a Family tree posted there for Pietro Antonio Sgamba. Born June 28, 1893 in Verbicaro, Italy. Died December 18, 1974 in Oakland, California. Married to Maria Cava who died in Oakland, CA in 1989.
