Re: Birth Certificate
It is difficult to say as each comune does their own thing so to speak. You should get a certified original document. What did they say in their email? You may want to send them a letter with a envelope per-addressed and posted and request a paper copy.

Re: Certifying Translations - Citizenship
You do not need a second apostille for your NY documents. I don't know about the divorce requirements however I can say that with my marriage certificate (NYC) I translated the the 2 pages and sent it to NY for authentication and they sent it back with a single page translation of their own. So abse...

Re: Process for Italian Citizenship
There is no timetable for the process in that once you have a document it will not expire. Appointments on the other hand do vary as Italia1963 points out. Re: Certifying Translations - Citizenship
Which consulate are you applying? I assume from your questions that you are not applying in NY but have documents that originate within NY's jurisdiction. If this is the case you do not have to have an Apostille on your translations. You would send your apostilled documents with translation to the N...

Re: Helping my niece gain jure sanguinis citizenship
I had the same situation with my father (NY resident), he completed form 3 and the consulate in Detroit asked me if he was applying. I responded no and we proceeded. Keep in mind that the consulates are not obligated to follow what the other consulates do. NY is not obligated to follow LA if your mo...

Re: Photocopies of original documents?
If you haven't already done so I would suggest that you scan all of your documents and bring at least one set of copies to your appointment. If you don't have a scanner then make copies.

Re: Police check needed for new Italian passport applicants?
They check to make sure there are no outstanding warrants and that you are not wanted for any crimes that would necessitate denying you access to a passport.

I don't know anyone who has done this but there is no harm in trying if all of your documents are ready to go.

Re: Name changes... Making them... Too much trouble?
The letter of exemplification will state whether it is from the archives or Dept of Health. Supporting documents are the documents that you are relying on to justify the changes that you are making. For example if you want to change the name on a marriage certificate then you would probably provide ...

Philly is also one of the consulates that will authenticate the documents while you wait if you bring them to the consulate.

Based upon the lineage that you describe your nephew would also need a form for his GF. He will also need documents for him as well.

Re: Certifications of translations
The two things are actually different. A certified translation refers to when a translator signs a statement certifying to the accuracy of the translation. Authentication of a document (sometimes referred to as legalizing) refers to the process where a consulate reviews the document, Apostille and t...
