Re: Sicilian church record town of origin

I tried to find the death records of Bartolomeo and Paolina in Monreale but no luck. I was hoping the death records might give their places of birth and a clue to the place of their marriage. I did find a marriage of a son of theirs named Giovanni (surname spelled as Zingone). He married a Rosa Term...

Re: Sicilian church record town of origin

According to the baptism record of Castrenza Rosa Giacoma in 1736, her parents were a married couple of Palermo. I believe it also says that they were living in Monreale, but someone else can verify this. I don't see their marriage record in Monreale. The sister Vincenza Giuseppa Castrenza Gaetana w...

Re: Valente surname & illegible atti di nascita

Very difficult to decipher due to the condition of the record- I believe the birth record (which is on the left) is dated Dec 3, 1842, and that the birth of Pasquale Valente took place on the 2nd at 2 P.M., with the baptism on the 4th in the parish of the town of Trani. Father: Giuseppe Valente, age...

Re: Death of Andrea Roccamatisi

From what I can find online, the surname appears to be specific to Palermo/Monreale. I do think you are on the right track concerning its origin, even though I see online that the etymology of the surname is obscure. The reason I say this is because Prof Fucilla, in his book on Italian surnames, sug...

Re: Death of Andrea Roccamatisi

In the first record, Pasquale was from Monreale. I believe it is the priest who was the confessor-the priest to whom he confessed his sins before dying-who was the person who lived in Bagheria? (Palermo). Pasquale may have been age 40, but I'm not sure about that. In the second record, I think that ...

Re: Help Finding, Translating, and Understanding Confirmation Records

Hello, I wanted to know if anyone could educate me on the topic of Confirmation Records. I'm Roman Catholic, so I know about the act itself, but what about the records? What age were people confirmed? What info do the records contain? Also, is it possible to find a confirmation record for my ancest...
