Re: Requesting church records

You may use the same form to ask the certificate to the parish, then it will be sent to the diocese of Tortona for the legalization.
I'll look if there are additional instructions on the website of the diocese.

Re: reporting births 10 years later?

They are not twins, one born 1878,, the other 1874, as written on the acts, the births are written later by the order of the Court of Patti. It's evident that at the time of births the parents omitted to declare the births ("or less probably) there was a mistake at the comune and were not regis...

Re: Qualify for Dual Citizenship

It should be possible that any of the descendants until you has decided to renounce to the Italian citizenship;
when applying, you should declare that this didn't happen and will be verified by the consulate of the area where the persons lived.

Re: Qualify for Dual Citizenship

As your ancestors after that/those immigrated to the US, they were US citizen, i don't think the US required to renounce to a possible other citizenship. This should be verified for those who arrived from Italy in the case they worked for the US government.

Re: Question about eligibility for Italian citizenship by descent

Why a 1948 case?
If the grand-mother had not lost Italian citizenship before, she gave citizenship to her son born in 1960.

Re: Visiting comuni in Messina

Cemeteries at present are cared by the civil authority (comune), not by the church, at least here in Northern Italy they are open during the day, exact times are shown at the entrance, but in general there is no personnel.

Re: Birth Certificate - Sicily Palermo, Maybe?

The apostille is requested by the US offices if you need certain processes, not by the Italian, but it's made by the Prefettura, a superior office to the comune. I don't think the comune will ask also the apostille, probably you need someone on the place who can follow the process. I think on this f...

Re: Birth Certificate - Sicily Palermo, Maybe?

As to the shipping of the certificate, in general they send by the Poste Italiane as ordinary letter (not registered) without asking payment of the postage (even if some comune ask it).. In some contries there was seen that simple letters not always arrive, and it should be better to ask a registere...
