There's a family tree on Ancestry.com which has Nicolo's wife as Catarina Vebnezia, his parents as Andrea Zarbo and Brigida Trinca, and his sister as Vincenza Zarbo, with no brothers.

Re: Accent after name
An accent doesn't occur AFTER a surname, but on its last letter (a vowel). Yet, I know it's just a matter of notation. Sometimes, you might find it written as (for example) Carra' ; but that is an apostrophe, the correct notation is Carrà You can sometimes find an apostrophe in surnames such as &qu...

Godfather in Sicily
In the mid-to-late 19th century in Sicily, how common would it be for parents to chose as the godfather for their baby a male age 17 not a member of the immediate family?

Re: Joining Who?
I was thinking "goodfather Garofalo Francesco 5 Elm St." "goodfather" meaning "godfather". I also had considered "Sebastiano" and "Vincenzo", but I hadn't thought of "Salvatore". However, I can't find a candidate with any of those first nam...

Re: Children in Photo
Glad to lend an opinion; I like looking at old photographs. Is there anything stamped or written on the back of your picture? Re: FAVERIO family
In the 1930 Census it records their ages at first marriage, 25 for him and 16 for her. If she was born in 1894 (per family tree) that means marriage in 1910, and if he was born in 1885 (your records) that means marriage in 1910, presumably in the U.S. unless they traveled back to Italy or to somewhe...

Re: FAVERIO family
Are these your relatives? They have her born in Nusco in 1894, immigrating in 1903 at age 8 with her mother Catherine DeLucia and brother Giuseppe joining papa Giuseppe Parla in Uniontown, PA. They say the ship manifest reads Raffella "Parla" for her last name but they have her father's na...
