Are you looking for an Italian surname? Do you need more information about your family heritage?
This is the right place to start your genealogy search.
Looking for any information on an Assunta (Tina) Piacentini (married name Cagnina). She was the mother of one of my DNA matches (based on research I’ve done).
She was born about 1924 In Valmontone (Lazio). She immigrated to New Jersey in 1947, where she married Frank Cagnina. She died in NJ in 1986.
I have Piacentini’s on both my grandparent’s branches – close on my Gf (his mother), & more distant on my Gm (her 2GGm).
I can’t seem to find any parental info on Assunta (which might help me in making the connection).
Since she was born in 1924, and the birth acts stop at 1920 in the Valmontone civil records, I’m at a roadblock.
None of the vital records I’ve found list names of her parents.
Can anyone help..?

I checked the 1920 birth acts which show 8 Piacentini births with 8 different father's names. Piacentini was a popular name in Valmontone, at least a dozen families (maybe more), so it won't do any good to guess...

Who is Angelo, a sibling you know of? Father perhaps? I see Piacentini born to an Angelo in 1919 and 1918. There is a marriage for one in 1913 #5. Getting site errors right now.

Just write to the town for a copy of her birth record.

Angelo could be either. Yes, Antenati has been having issues of late. It still may be a guessing game, as Angelo is a common name in Valmontone and as I mentioned, there were (and are) MANY Piacentini families there. I believe it's one of the most common surnames in the town...

I'm finding bits & pieces, but Antenati is fighting me. Not sure what is going on with their site, but it's frustrating. Obviously I'll have to continue at a later date when they get the issues fixed...

Have you ruled out her?

Yes. Wrong part of Italy. Only the year of birth matches. I may be on the right track with searches on Antenati, but their server is so messed up it's nearly impossible until they get it fixed.

It's also difficult with all the different Piacentini lines just within Valmontone alone. Over a dozen, & names often repeat. The Antenati issues aren't helping.

My guess is her grandfather (Ernesto Piacentini, father of Angelo) MAY have been my GGm's brother. But his death act page (which would list his parent's names) won't come up. She and my mother would have been born 1-year apart so the dates line up pretty well.
But it could just as well be only indirectly related...

I'm still seeking parentage and beyond for Assunta Piacentini looking for a family connection. She was born on Dec 9, 1923 in Valmontone. Ship manifest shows father's name as Angelo. No birth records for Valmontone post-1920.
I can only find 2 marriages for Angelo Piacentini's, both in 1924. Several surnames from wives/mothers in both cases are surnames in my family tree, but no direct descendants as yet.
I need a new set of eyes to look into this -- mine are crossed. Any assistance appreciated.

Concetta Mattia born 16 Feb 1881 to parents Giovanni Mattia, 39, and an unmarried woman. The mother was later named as Carolina Calvano on the marriage record above, they may have married after Concetta was born.
The typical Italian lineage dates from circa 1600, and for most of us that's reasonably profound. But who wants to be "typical" when you might be able to trace a lineage into the 1500s or even into the Middle Ages? Because success in this field requires practice and perseverance, as well as skills m...
