Well to start, I would recommend getting Ancestry.com World Deluxe account, especially if you're doing Italian genealogy. I have found so much on there, half my tree. It is a tad pricey at $30.00 a month. You should also contact your senior family members and get any info they have. Mine had valuable clues. Another thing you should do is visit your local family history center (find one near you with this link:http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... c.asp)They have tons of records on microfilm at the Library in Salt Lake City, and you can order them for a small fee of $5.00. (Use this link to find out if they have records from the area you're looking for http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... umns=*,0,0) I haven't had much luck with mine, as I live in a small town and they don't know how to use the microfilm. Another thing you must remember, is to never put something on your tree without records, don't trust free genealogy sites like RootsWeb. Use what they say as leads to finding records. And if you hit a brick wall, I'm sure many people on here can help you out.

You know, if you give me a few names and locations, I could look around Ancestry.com for you. Or would you rather keep that info private?

I wasn't able to find anything on Ancestry.com as the Australian records are sparse but, the Family History Library in Salt Lake City has civil records from the year 1866-1910 for Leni, Messina, Sicily, Italy (I'm assuming this is the place you were looking for). There are some Family History Centers in Australia, you can use the link above to see if there is one near you. You'll need to order the records from the library, which would cost $5.00 here, but may be more expensive in Australia.
