Ré family search

Post by Sean_Ré »

Hello,

I am looking for any info to begin a search of family back in Italy.

My grandfather, Angelo Ré, came here when he was 17, and married my grandmother, Anna Cirello, when he was 21, she was about 15. They lived in Buffalo, NY. He was a bricklayer and died in 1973, so I'm guessing he was born around the turn of the century. She died around 1991.

They had two children, John and Marie. John, my father, died in 1972 at the age of 38. He was married to my mother, Beverly Ann Stashak, and they had three kids: Sean (born 1968), Wendy (born 1964), and David (born 1962).

Marie married Daniel Diocedo, and they had four kids: John, Dan, Tina, and Debbie.

I'm trying to dig up more exact dates from my family for Angelo and Anna's birth, death, as well as where they came from in Italy. Hopefully this is enough info to start, though.

Thank you for any and all help.

Sean Ré

Yes! Amazing! I just posted this yesterday! What an incredible resource you are. Thank you so much. That must be him. I remember my mom mentioning Licata, but I thought it was spelled La Cata and couldn't find it on the map. His death in the summer of '73 makes sense because we were on a family vacation in California in the summer when he died.

Anna's parents I remember they called them "Mamma Neza" and "Pappa Lido", so I'm not sure what their actual names are. I also remember two of her brothers, Frank and Sam. And yes, she was born in the states. The location for her seems odd, so I'll check with my Mom on this and see what she has to offer.

Grazie mille!!!!!!

By the way,

How does one take it to the next step, that is, find out Angelo's family left behind in Italy, and where they are now? Do I have to contact someone in Licata?

the better way is to try in Licata civil records by Mormon's microfilms, all helpful data abt your ancestor, parents, siblings and more:
Topic Italy, Agrigento, Licata - Civil registration

Registri dello stato civile di Licata (Agrigento), 1820-1910 Licata (Agrigento). Ufficio dello stato civile

http://www.familysearch.org/eng/library ... +Licata+%2 &columns=*,0,0
when you have precise data you can ask abt all Angelo Re siblings, well you can contact the living Re in Licata:
http://www.paginebianche.it/execute.cgi ... icata&ind=
asking if they are potential relatives......

Regarding my Grandmother, I received some more info from my Mom, she says:

"They have your Grandma's name wrong and consequently the information is not correct. I believe Anna Chiarello. Her parents names are Agnes Chiarello, Frank (Paul) Chiarello.
They were born in Sicily, I don't know what town.
There were only 3 children born to Agnes & Frank:Anna, Samuel and Frank (all born here in USA)
They did get the information on Grandpa Re right. As far as I know
He still has relation in Genoa. Nunziato, I believe."

I know the info is sketchy, but my Dad has been dead for 37 years so piecing this together may be tricky.

Salute,

Sean

Hi lee, I believe very helpful the obituary; also if in 1920 census Agnes appearing as Josephine, it could be that she changed in Agnes, no rare...
I believe that Chiarello and Curreri coming from Cefalú... but ancestry.com not work today and we must wait for to find some record abt this family and to know if they coming from Cefalú... effectively...
hugs,
