Raffaele and Saverio CIACCIA from Napoli born c 1783

Post by carolinechurch »

Hi, my first ever post! I wonder if anyone can help me with these 2 brothers. They arrived in London sometime before 1812, and married 2 sisters, Ann and Jane FURNEAUX. Both listed their occupations as mariners, from Napoli. I have found all the documentation available once they arrived in England, except how they got there, when and exactly which parish they were from.
I'm hoping I haven't reached a dead end, and I can't get to Italy...
Raffaele was my great (x3) grandfather, and changed his name to CHURCH.

Hi Michael, thanks for your reply - this is a link to the current telephone directory?
I have several documents to indicate Raffaele is from Napoli but nothing more.
I didn't really bother investigating Ciaccias currently living in Italy, after a quick look there are so many, and I am searching over 200 years ago....

Caroline.
Searching for my great x3 grandfather Raffaele CIACCIA, also known as Raphael/Ralph CHURCH. He was born in Napoli around 1792 and arrived in London before 1812 with his brother Saverio CIACCIA, where they married sisters Ann and Jane FURNEAUX. He switched between CHURCH and CIACCIA all his life, which has made it difficult enough to pin him down. I want to find his origin in Italy.

Thanks Michael.
I'm not really looking for Furneaux at the moment. They have been in England since at least 1700 as I have traced them back that far, it is a French name but has been in England since the Norman conquest, so there is no reason or proof for me to start looking in France yet.

I have searched all the obvious places such as familysearch for Ciaccia, this is why I've come to the specialists in Italian genealogy.

What I'm hoping for:
Someone who has found Ciaccias during their own search.
Someone who shares the same ancestry.
Someone currently with access to Napoli records who can keep an eye out for useful information.
A way of searching maritime records, as Raffaele Ciaccia was a sailor.
Anyone else I can help with all the data I have collected about unrelated Ciaccias in England.
