Looking for Charles Festorazzi

Post by annlouisajane »

I am trying to trace Charles Festorazzi, who was born about 1808 in Italy. He married Charlotte Langridge in Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England on 26 Dec 1831. They had nine children, all born in Tunbridge Wells.
Charles died in 1886, aged 82.

On the census records it always states that Charles came from Italy, it never gives a town, or an area of Italy.

His name is always given as Charles Festorazzi. Never Carlo. If he wanted to sound more English I cannot understand why he didn't also change his surname.
Might it be that Charles was born in Italy with an Italian father and an English mother.

Is there any way I can find out when Charles arrived in England and where in Italy he was born.
Thanks for any help you can offer

I checked this site just to see where the lastname Festorazzi is present in Italy:

http://www.gens.labo.net/

As you can see it's a rare lastname and it's present only in the region Lombardia, in the north of Italy... :D
on this site (digit Festorazzi in Lombardia region) you can see in which italian towns is present today:

http://italia.indettaglio.it/eng/cognomi/cognomi.html

The "festorazzi" surname occours in 10 out of 1545 towns

12.54 Perledo Lecco

Thanks for coming back to me. I didn't realise that Festorazzi was an unusual name.
Is the name associated with any particular trade or profession?

Do you know if there are any records of people migrating to England in the early 1800s.

The Italian surname dictionary has no listing for Festorazzi and there is no word dictionary meaning for the name. Italian names in Italy surname dictionary not having any listings in the surname dictionary signifies that it is local in origin based upon a nickname, activity, anecdotes in that area of Italy. =Peter=

+For emigration to England by Festorazzi you might try www.findmypast.com It is a paying website but name checks are free and might clue you into something worthwhile. When and if Festorazzi comes up select the lowest numbers for any references of value.

There were 3 Festorazzi who left merry old england for the USA in 1898...stuff like that. =Peter=
