Tracing my Sardenga roots - Marceddu

Post by amarceddo1 »

Hi everyone

I am 50 % Italian and have been piecing my family heritage together for the past year. Been going great on my grandmothers side who have a family surname of Drovandi and come from a small town called Ostiglia.

However, having great diffuculty on my Grandfather's side - Constantino Marceddu. Unfortunately, my family knows only a little about his background.

We understand (this may not be true) that he came to Australia from Italy (believe born in Sardenga) sometime between 1905 and 1913. We are not sure but believe he came out to Pacific while serving in French Navy and was posted to New Caledonia. While visiting Brisbane he deserted and settled in a place called Ingham, Queensland.

This is where he met my Grandmother and was married.

Unfortunately, we do not have a lot of information about his family. I believe he was born about 1889 in a small town in center of Sardenga possibly Sedilo.

I have not been able to find a birth certificate, name of his parents or any brothers/sisters.

Any help would be greatly appreciated to point me in the right direction

regards

Tony

The name does appear in the town of Sedilo. Here are some sites that may help.
