Re: Demonte from Polia, Italy
To Biff83- you made mention on naturalization markings on the Ellis Island records - I have never run across this before - is there any way to trace this refernce to a record
Re: Demonte from Polia, Italy
The following should help explain the markings on the two manifests.
http://www.jewishgen.org/infofiles/Manifests/occ/
If you check the occupation column, you'll see the number 1 followed by a dash and then a number of letters. The "1" indicates that he filed papers at the Boston office. These are followed by (505 6/23/39) which indicate that the date of his first papers (his declaration of intent to become a US citizen) was 23 Jun 1939. To complete the process, he would then have to file and complete a petition, and sign an oath of alleginace after a waiting period of three years.
Can someone post where frenchgenealogy might be able to write for Giuseppe's naturalization documents? Thanks
Biff
