So, I was putzing around at the US Italian Embassy's web site (that, is, the web site of the United States of America Embassy based in Italy), http://italy.usembassy.gov/Main/, when I came upon several interesting items:
1) As to the constant question, how do I request a birth/marriage/death certificate from Italy, look here, and in particular, download these forms: request birth certificate, request marriage certificate, and request death certificate.
2) More good stuff, like a list of English-speaking doctors and hospitals, lawyers and notaries, translators, and so on.
